Andrea Sutrick Art Therapy LLC Create your calm. Your clarity. Your change. A picture is worth a thousand words. We don’t have to speak; the image can speak for us.

Creative In-Person or Online Therapy for adults in Florida who want a new way to... Conquer your anxiety, release your past & harness harmony in relationships thru Art Therapy, EMDR & Nature-Based approaches. No need to be an artist; it’s simply creating and seeing where the journey takes you. As a lifelong art maker, I find the stories, thoughts, and emotions behind images to be healing and uplifting. I have witnessed the benefits of art therapy with individuals who have survived trauma resulting from combat, abuse, incarceration, natural disaster, and as first responders; persons with substance use, depression, anxiety and other disorders. Art therapy helps people resolve conflicts, improve interpersonal skills, manage problematic behaviors, reduce negative stress, and achieve personal insight. Art therapy also provides an opportunity to enjoy the life-affirming pleasures of artmaking. Each person is unique and art therapy offers creative, tailored approaches to balance your body, mind, and spirit for healthy wellbeing. Andrea Sutrick is a Board-Certified Registered Art Therapist, EMDR Certified Therapist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor and National Certified Counselor. I completed my Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling Degree with Honors from Saint Mary of the Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana. I conducted research implementing A Body-Mind-Spirit Art Therapy Intervention for Stress Reduction in Firefighter Spouses. My training includes Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and mindfulness practices. I am a member of the American Art Therapy Association and Florida Art Therapy Association.

Have you tried talk therapy & it hasn’t helped?... Talking about yourself may seem overwhelming when you have so much anxiety, past memories and feel distanced from those you care about. At work, it’s hard for you to hit that ‘off button.’ At home, you stay up late getting caught up in the thoughts of your past or replaying a conversation in your head. Your stress has caused yet another panic attack. Each week is so draining as you hold tension in your shoulders, a swirling spiral of stomach yuck, or feel keyed up as you scroll mindlessly on your phone. You crave relief & direction and haven’t been able to find it anywhere else.

I specialize in a different approach. As an EMDR Certified Therapist & Art Therapist, our work together is a natural unfolding. With a safe space and reflection, you can find ways to combine the body-based work of EMDR with artmaking. Working through your senses can help you reconnect to your body to process somatic pain and past hurt for healing today.

You’re open to a new way of therapy. No art skills needed, just to be open to the process. When discovering your own rhythms, creating helps tune out the world to hear your inner wisdom. Are you ready to find your calm, clarity & change? Supporting adults, professionals, active-duty, vets, 1st responders & spouses. Request a free consult at www.AndreaSutrickArtTherapy.com

My heart leapt with a gentle joy today for the gathering of the 1st Heartpine Community Art Studio.

Everyone got to meet the space, the supplies and each other. We introduced ‘agreements’ to hold a safe space for artmaking and conversation.

We discussed how Heartpine Community Art Studio got its name….

Heartpine is the name of the 300+ year old pine trees cut down in the early 1900’s as part of the big lumber industry here in our community. Logs were felled and floated down log flumes to the Bagdad Lumber Mill. Heartpine has dense rings, making it strong and resilient. Most historic homes and businesses in downtown Milton are made of Heartpine wood, still standing today after all these years.

Everyone was invited to look at samples of heartpine wood pieces as compared to pine 2x4’s from a hardware store. We used the wood grain as inspiration to make Heartpine planks. Then we arranged our finished planks to make our shared Heartpine floor.

🌈All the colors & designs
🗣️Good conversation
☺️Calm space
🕊️Peaceful artmaking

From our strong flooring, how might conversations & art continue to flourish?

Come join us for our next studio and celebrate with Mardi-Gras inspired art…

In Apalachicola, homeowners are fighting to save the shotgun—a style of wooden home, not the weapon. But the moniker for the coastal town’s historic home style does come from the literal gun: if someone had a shotgun, they could shoot straight through the house.

In 2016, the group Save Our Shotguns formed to preserve the homes, which are built to ensure cooling airflow in swampy climates.

The homes first proliferated in the early 1800s, most notably in New Orleans—where enslaved Africans and immigrant Haitians constructed the dwellings—as well as in other ports of call along the Gulf of Mexico, from Houston to Key West.

In a story from our archives, learn about the Florida homeowners trying to protect the historic homes: https://flamingomag.com/2021/11/15/saving-the-historic-shotgun-houses-of-apalachicola/

How are you doing? “Fine.” The predictable, don’t-bat-an-eye response that says, “let’s move on.” In a nano-second, we distance ourselves from the discomfort of the holidays. Hands up – Who all feels pressured to “look happy?” ~Or have the uncomfortable laugh? ~Make the side-eye gl...

The whisper of winter is upon us… Sharing a creative image & poem below. ❄️

The business of our commercial world should be restated as “busy-ness.” While celebrating and sharing time with others, Winter Solstice and the days of winter invite us to slow down. Much like animals in hibernation, the shorter days help us to conserve energy and slow our heart rate. I’m sharing again an old painting and poem offering you an invitation for pause this season.

“Ode to Winter Solstice”
Shortest of days, dimness and grays
A winter solstice chill, only the winds distill
A time to pause,
Curled for slumber, ice candles sing ‘n shimmer
Narcissus bulbs tower tall
Wafting a gentle perfume call
Inviting all to reflect on roots
Origins, beginnings, all a’foot
For the darkness of days
Summon in spirit’s presence
Jovial torches by moonlight
Joys, celebrations, a Turkish delight.
For the squirrel loosens its toil
As earth begins to tilt and coil
Towards longest of days, with warm slivers of rays
As we thank with ritual to winter
May the hand summon me hither
Pointing beyond celestial light
The days will grow long and shorten the night.
