How To Get More Sleep (Tips To Help Your Gains)

Sleep is a key part of recovering from training and just day to day stressors of life. Here are some tips to get in bed and wake up well rested.

Push day A

Got a new job at the hospital I'm doing my clinicals at that is much closer to my house, and I'll be saving 4.5 hours a week of commuting...along with better hours, I'll be able to go back to my old (and favorite) gym routine of push, pull, legs twice a week

The goal is growth, so some general tips for growth:

-Make sure you're eating enough protein and calories overall, split up throughout the day, as this is ideal for protein synthesis (in simpler terms, repairing muscles so they can grow)...yes healthy fats and carbohydrates are also necessary

-Sleep enough, 7-9 hours a night is good for not only brain function and energy, but for repairing as well

-Pick exercises that feel the best for you. There's no "best" exercises for growth, other than the ones that feel good for you, that you're able to stick with, and utilize progressive overload with. I've been using a lot of machines for push days, as my shoulders have always been s**t. These allow me to use a strict range of motion and focus on the muscles I'm trying to work

When deciding to set out on a health and fitness goal, how do you normally approach it?

Do you:
-Decide you want make a change, but stop planning after that?

-Have a rough idea of what you need to do, but not enough of a plan to carry it out?

-Make a plan, but when the time comes you don't have the motivation to do it?

These are common things that happen and I've been there myself. Unfortunately, this is what leads to failure. There's no specific goal of what you want to achieve, and there's no plan to follow in order to get there.

It can also be easy to think about the outcome so much that you don't think about what you can be doing now in order to get there!

Make the decision to change your habits this week and get out of your normal routine 🤝

Decide what you want to change, figure out what you need to do to reach your goal, and do everything you can to get there!

Why wait for the new year when you can get started on your goals now?

How many times have you had a new years resolution like:

"I'm gonna start going to the gym"

"I'm gonna start eating better"

"I'm gonna lose weight"

"I'm gonna build muscle"

Have you reached those goals? If you have, then that's awesome to hear, keep it up!

If not, what caused you to stop? Was it a lack of knowledge? Not being able to adapt to things that come up? Hitting a plateau you didn't know how to break through? Not having accountability to keep you going?

These are all things that you gain with having a coach to make sure you reach your goals!
