🎃👻 Spooky Season = Skill-Building Season!
Halloween fun isn’t just about costumes and candy — it’s full of speech and OT opportunities! 🍬✨
🧡 OT fun:
Carving pumpkins helps build hand strength, coordination, and sensory exploration — especially when scooping out those gooey seeds! (Just remember to keep it safe — kids can help with scooping, drawing faces, or using plastic carving tools instead of sharp knives.)
After trick-or-treating, sorting candy by type, size, or color is another great way to work on fine motor skills, visual scanning, and categorizing!
💬 Speech fun:
Pointing out Halloween decorations while walking or driving around is a great way to practice describing words (“spooky,” “sparkly,” “silly”) and making connections.
Candy sorting can also build language skills — try labeling, comparing (“This one is bigger!”), and counting treats together.
👂 Listening for rhyming Halloween words or practicing themed vocabulary like “bat,” “ghost,” or “pumpkin” makes learning feel like play!
So this October, let’s turn every spooky moment into a chance to grow skills and confidence. 🕸🦇
