Greater Love Birth and Community Care

Greater Love Birth and Community Care Tori Freund (they/them) is a student midwife and educator located in Milwaukee, WI.

As a queer full spectrum doula, student midwife, and educator it is my honor to provide support to families and individuals throughout the entire spectrum of pregnancy, its outcomes, and beyond. In addition to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum services and education, I offer support and resources to those trying to get pregnant, looking to expand their family through adoption and surrogacy, as well

as those who are accessing abortion care or experiencing a loss. I wrote and teach from my own 6-week childbirth education series, have 102+ hours of lactation and infant feeding education, and am continuously adding on to my skills and offerings.

Happy Nonbinary Parents Day! 💜⚧️🏳️‍⚧️

Celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of April, Nonbinary Parents Day is a day for all of the nonbinary, trans, genderq***r, or otherwise outside of the binary parents and caregivers who are growing, loving, and supporting little (or not so little) humans. Wherever you are in your parenting journey or whatever role you play in caring for and supporting the next generations - you are loved, seen, and held ♥️✨

It’s official! After 3+ years of hard work and dedication, I’m getting ready to take my exam to officially become a certified professional midwife 🎉

Please join us in celebrating this incredible achievement at our International Day of the Midwife open house on Sunday, May 3rd beginning at 1 pm. There will be snacks! There will be cake (of course)! And I would love to see everyone who has supported me and made this all possible.

Come when you can, stay as long as you’re able. Gifts are not expected but if you do feel inclined, you can either check out my wishlist or support me in purchasing essential equipment via cash or Venmo (@ toaster43). Hugs, cards, and baby snuggles are highly encouraged! ♥️

This little asphalt heart caught my attention while leaving a client’s house yesterday 🖤

I am definitely someone who notices the little things. Whether it’s the robins returning in the spring (spotted a few this past weekend!) or the shift in someone’s demeanor from one visit to the next, I have always tuned in to the details. For a long time, this felt more like a curse than a gift. I was made to feel weird about it by people who thought I spent too much time focusing on the wrong things or putting too much stock into “insignificant” details. Thankfully, I’ve grown past that.

Birthwork has taught me the importance of the big picture *and* all the little details that go into it. While I may be sitting beside your birth pool keeping time in my head for when to listen to your baby next or going over steps for getting you moved to your bed once baby is here, I’m also watching the subtle shifts that you’re making between contractions and noticing the way your partner is watching you with awe and intensity. I’m keeping track of where your water was last set down and making sure I have everything I need nearby for when baby makes their way to your arms.

The big picture is important, but the little details are what make everything come together. And I am grateful for the gift and ability to hold them both.

Hey friends! I am so close to finishing my training, and with that comes turning in paperwork and taking my boards. Despite working multiple jobs throughout my training, saving up money has not been a real possibility. If you’re able and feel called to, I would so appreciate help with this last push to licensure. And if you’re not able to donate, sharing is also so appreciated! ♥️

📣 An announcement and class schedule update!

I’m excited to share that I’ll be expanding my class from 6 weeks to 8 weeks beginning in May! I thought long and hard about this, but have decided that this feels like the right next step. I want to make sure I always have enough time for discussion, hands-on practice, and questions and that just doesn’t feel like it’s been the case with my current class structure. We’ve always made it work, but why do that when we can just spread out a little more and give ourselves the time and space we need to move at a better pace for everyone?

Check out the updated schedule and let me know if you have any questions! My inbox is always open 📨

Intermittent Monitoring in Labor👂🏻

During your birth, we’ll come to you (wherever you are) and ask to listen to baby. We do this every 30 minutes during active labor, listening for at least 60 seconds. Occasionally, we’ll also ask to listen for longer periods of time so we can listen to baby before, during, and after a contraction. This kind of intermittent monitoring all throughout your labor gives us a good idea of how baby is handling labor. You also rarely have to stop what you’re doing or change positions! I’ve listened to babies while swaying, with someone on the toilet, in the tub and shower — you name it, we’ve done it!

As you begin to push, we begin to listen more often (usually at least every 15 minutes, but sometimes more often if needed). We can usually also do this without having to ask you to move or change what you’re doing. This may sound like a lot, but I’ve honestly heard from quite a few clients that they didn’t even notice how often we were listening. Our goal is to get the information we need with as little disturbance as possible whenever possible.

Do you have any questions about intermittent monitoring? I’d love to answer them!

Don’t get my candy for Valentine’s Day, get me… 💝

While this one was midwife-specific, I’d love to know - what do you want instead of candy for Valentine’s Day?

I definitely had enough to keep going, so don’t be surprised if another one of these pops up 👀

✨2025 Highlights✨

It was quite the year, y’all.
• started off slow with recovering from top surgery
• spent a lot of time in and building community (very excited to do more of that next year!)
• thought I was going to finish my numbers but ended the year with 7 births left
• started attending more clinic and births with other midwives (s/o )
• drove to New Hampshire and back and even though I didn’t catch any babies, taught me so much
• worked with several repeat clients, both as a student and a doula! And there are more coming up in 2026!

I can’t thank my students, clients, partners, community, and enough seeing me through another year ♥️

Some of my goals for 2026:
• finish my numbers, take and pass the NARM exam, become licensed 💪🏻
• expand my childbirth ed and train a teaching assistant 🤓
• continue learning and expand my skills as a midwife 🩺
• continue reading for fun and pursuing joy and rest outside of work (I read 53 books this year!) 📚
• take a vacation with my partners 🛣️

See ya 2025! ✌🏻
