Starr Horse Retreats is a sacred sanctuary where horse lovers and starseeds from all walks of life come together to awaken their divine purpose, rediscover their soul family, and embrace their gifts with bitless partnership. We spent the past 2 1/2 years restoring the center and guest houses to roll out the Shamanic Horse Healing Retreats. With a degree in health education from San Francisco State University, and after traveling extensively, I began hosting annual consciousness gatherings called Gaia Gathering. I have hosted many plant medicine circles, and am so excited to launch our Horse Healing Retreats monthly to share the shamanic medicine of the horses.

3-Year-Old Mustang Halo’s First Barn Time with the Entire Herd at Starr Horse Retreats.
Barn Time is when the herd comes into their individual stalls for a half hour to eat without competition, and when our older horses receive their senior feed. It also gives me a chance to check on everyone. When the doors open, the horses come and go freely. Interestingly, they choose the stars, moon, wind, snow, trees, and open sky rather than staying in the barn. Horses are elemental beings, anchoring energy through their hooves into the Earth. Across our 30 acres, they can access several shelters whenever needed, including the 10-stall horse barn, but the herd prefers to live in the pastures.

Emotional Day 3 Integration with the Entire Herd of 17 Horses
On this 3rd day, Halo meets the entire herd of seventeen. As with every new arrival, there are rules the herd follows. At the beginning, the newcomer isn’t allowed to get too close to the core group during feeding time. It looks dramatic, but it’s more of a ritual than a real threat. The herd uses this distance to establish hierarchy, to show who leads, and to help the new horse find her place.
We put hay in three different locations across the 30 acres, with three watering stations spread throughout, so the newcomer always has access to food, water, and space to get away.
That morning, I felt a little bad for Halo, so I dropped an extra pile of hay for her, but she was promptly shooed away several times until her new friends safely guided her to an alternate feeding station.

Halo, the Mustang Meets Her Match: Day 2 at Starr Horse Retreats
Day two of Halo’s integration with the herd at Starr Horse Retreats. On her second day, we introduced Halo to a few more herd members, including three-year-old Valentine, who is the same age as Halo. We are still keeping some of the more dominant herd members separate in the back ten acres to give Halo space to adjust at her own pace.
After barn time, I rearranged the gates so the more dominant horses remained in the back ten acres overnight, while Halo could safely and peacefully experience both the East Field and the West Field with a few new friends.

Introducing a Wild Mustang to the Herd at Starr Horse Retreats
Halo is a three-year-old Mustang who began life in the wild, and at seven weeks old her world was shattered. After a helicopter roundup of her herd, she lived in confinement with her mother until six months, when she was separated and entered a halter-training program. Her program participant chose to keep her for a couple more years, and now, at three years old (the same age as Solar and Valentine) she has been rehomed to Starr Horse Retreats.
This video begins her story. We picked her up, trailered her home, and started her first introduction with the ponies, the donkeys, and Legend for her first night. She met the rest of the herd over the fence line, taking in her new life at a gradual pace.

As my life with horses deepens, I listen to them, learn from them, and witness how they guide people back into coherence and truth.

A mythic map has emerged, with each horse carrying a different facet of the zodiac, a different medicine, a different ancient memory. Together they form a wheel of wisdom that reflects both human evolution and the healing pathways back into coherence, with ourselves, with one another, and with the living Earth.

How Horses Heal Humans: They Regulate Coherence in the Human Nervous System

Heart coherence happens when the two parts of the autonomic nervous system come into balance: the sympathetic (fight/flight) and the parasympathetic (rest/repair). Most humans live stuck in survival mode, which makes the heart rhythm incoherent. Horses change that. Their huge hearts create a powerful electromagnetic field that helps regulate our nervous systems. Simply standing near a calm, happy horse can shift a human from stress into coherence, lowering cortisol and increasing DHEA, the body’s natural healing chemistry.

Not every horse is coherent, but when horses feel safe and connected, they become a living model of regulation.
And a coherent human can help a stressed horse in return.
This is where true healing begins.
This is why happy horses are key to healing human hearts.

Horses are returning as healers of humankind. Their very presence brings the human nervous system into coherence, balancing heart, body, and mind. Even from several meters away, a horse can lower a person’s heart rate and restore a sense of harmony within.
While every horse carries this capacity, those who live freely, grazing, moving, and relating within their herds, offer it most clearly.

As I bring the herd together at Starr Horse Retreats, something deeper begins to reveal itself. One morning between dreaming and waking, I saw Aspen as a fragment of my own soul… and then the entire zodiac wheel appeared. Each horse took its place on it.

They weren’t just horses.
They were archetypes.
They were pieces of me.
And pieces of the collective human story.

Aries through Pisces, the Divine Feminine, the Divine Masculine, the Sacred Clown, the Ancestor, and the three donkey angels, all forming a map of healing for humanity.

What was shattered is coming home.
The herd is not only in the pasture.
The herd is within us.

Horses anchor the grid of Earth with their hooves, creating a steady exchange of energy with the land. When they move together as a herd, this grounding effect multiplies and stabilizes the entire field around them. As prey animals with high energetic sensitivity, they read emotion, intention, and environmental signals instantly, which gives them a steadying influence on humans as well.

They evolved alongside us more intimately than any large animal on Earth, and their electromagnetic field synchronizes with ours with ease. They reflect our patterns, amplify our coherence, and reveal our distortions. They are grounding rods and consciousness teachers, designed to live in herds, move, graze, and relate as a community. They are not meant to live in stalls.

The herd gathers in the November rain, each one mirrored by the constellations above, linking to star consciousness and transmitting currents into the Earth. Their presence stabilizes the grid, and their partnership helps us wake up and remember.
