In honor of National Herbalist Day,
celebrated on April 17th, we will be posting
information on Chinese herbal medicine this month!
Today's Herb is: Gou Teng 鉤藤, also known as Uncaria Vine with Hooks or Uncariae Ramulus Cum Uncis. It is part of the herbal medicine category Extinguish Wind and Stop Tremors. Fun fact, Gou Teng is one of the premier herbs to address Wind induced headaches! 🍃
Chinese herbal medicine, a key component of
Traditional Chinese Medicine, has been practiced for
over 2,000 years. It uses natural substances like roots,
leaves, seeds, minerals, and occasionally some
animal-derived compounds that are combined into
formulas tailored to each individual’s needs. Traditional
Chinese herbal medicine operates very differently from
taking one single herb or ingredient. The multi-herb
formulas are designed to work together and influence
multiple physiological pathways at the same time.
