👣 Did you know some people have a second toe that is longer than the big toe? This is often called "Morton's Toe" or simply a longer second toe, where the hallux (big toe) appears shorter in comparison. These photos are of one of our regular client‘s feet who, as a result of longer second toes, sees us for concerns of thickened nails.

Anatomically, this happens because the bones in the foot—the metatarsals—vary in length. When the second metatarsal is longer than the first, the second toe extends further. This natural variation is common across many ethnicities and is considered a normal part of foot structure.

However, having a longer second toe can sometimes cause issues. Because the second toe extends further, it may rub more against shoes, leading to thickening of the toenail, calluses, or even discomfort during walking. This rubbing can also increase the risk of nail problems like thickened nails or ingrown toenails.

Understanding this anatomy helps us provide better foot care tailored to your unique foot shape. If you notice any discomfort, nail changes, or irritation related to your toe length, our specialized foot care services can help prevent complications and keep your feet healthy and comfortable.

Don’t let a longer second toe slow you down—reach out today to schedule your appointment! 👣✨

🏒🎾🩰⚽ Think Foot Care Nurses Only Serve Adults? Think Again! We’re Here for Young Athletes Too!

Active kids and teens in sports put their feet through a lot… running, jumping, and quick pivots can lead to ingrown toenails, corns, callouses, and fungal nails that slow them down and cause discomfort.

At The Foot Nurse, our RNs provide gentle, expert treatment to keep your young athlete’s feet in top shape.

Just recently, we helped a teen ballerina struggling with painful ingrown toenails caused by her pointe shoes. Dancing en pointe puts incredible pressure on small toes, and without proper care, ingrown nails can become a serious barrier to performance. Our nurses carefully treated her condition, relieved the pain, and gave advice on foot care so she could dance confidently again— pain-free!

We offer tailored care to:
✔️ Relieve painful ingrown toenails safely
✔️ Treat corns and callouses to prevent injury
✔️ Manage fungal nail infections effectively
✔️ Advise on proper footwear and foot hygiene to keep feet healthy and strong

Don’t let foot problems bench your child this season! Our compassionate nurses help young athletes get back on their feet quickly and confidently.

🏅 Healthy feet = happier, stronger players.

📆 Schedule a consultation today and give your child’s feet the care they deserve. Because great athletes start with great foot care!

❄️ Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this year, which means six more weeks of winter! That’s more chilly days ahead to bundle up and keep cozy. But with colder weather comes extra challenges for our feet — especially for those with chronic conditions.

Winter’s cold can cause dry, cracked skin and circulation issues, making footcare more important than ever. Proper footcare helps prevent discomfort, infections, and even serious complications for patients who may be less mobile or have diabetes.

Here are some footcare tips to keep your feet healthy and comfortable during these long winter weeks:

• Keep feet clean and dry, but moisturize regularly to prevent cracking
• Check daily for redness, swelling, or sores
• Encourage gentle foot exercises to boost circulation
• Use warm (not hot) water for washing and drying thoroughly
• Choose warm, well-fitting footwear and socks — wool or cotton are best

Just like Phil’s shadow reminds us to prepare for winter’s stretch, let’s prepare our care routines to protect those precious feet through the season. Because healthy feet help everyone stand strong, no matter how long the winter lasts! ❄️👣😅

Thick hard to cut discolored nails are more than a cosmetic issue. They can be painful difficult to manage and risky to cut at home.

As an RN, I don’t diagnose I professionally manage, thick and dystrophic nails to improve comfort, safety, and mobility.

Did you know thick nails aren’t always fungal nails. Trauma, aging, circulation can cause nails to thicken.
