The posts from this professional are blowing my mind.
A study gathered pediatric nurses’ perspectives after using lavender EO chest wraps (LEOCWs) as a complementary treatment for infants with bronchiolitis—inflammation of the small airways (bronchioles) in the lungs. To make the LEOCWs the nurses diluted lavender to 10% in carrier oil and applied it to a cotton cloth. The cloth was then placed in a bag and warmed between two heating pads for two to five minutes to distribute the lavender EO throughout the cotton cloth. Following this, the cotton was placed around the infant’s chest and covered with a woolen cloth. While not reported in the study, it is common to leave the LEOCW in place for twenty to thirty minutes and perform this twice daily, if well tolerated. In this qualitative study, the nurses reported the LEOCWs were a valuable adjunct treatment to reduce coughing and calm the infants and their parents.
