The students of Jenny Focht Music Studio gave their Spring recital last Saturday! Spring recitals are such a celebratory time for me, the reflection of a year’s hard work, growth, and play. I’m so proud of every student courageously sharing their music, and I’m grateful for the support of their families.

I always feel inspired and connected after a recital, and inevitably my wheels start turning as I dream about the next year of engaging repertoire, exciting goals, and creative projects! Please reach out if you are interested in piano or flute lessons with me this fall!

I’m so pleased to share my new branding and website: the outcome of months of reflecting on and clarifying my values and purpose. In my teaching, I’m all about pursuing deeper musical understanding, devotion to the journey of musical and personal growth, and making play the goal and tool for learning.

I aim to inspire learners of all ages and abilities to love music and guide them towards accomplished musicianship, so they have well-rounded skills to play music throughout their lives.

Celebrating all of my piano, flute, and ukulele students who courageously and skillfully shared their music with each other and family members at our online December recitals!

We had a fun mix of holiday songs including several selections from the Nutcracker! I’m so proud of each and every one of my students for their devotion to their practice and recital pieces.

I appreciated all of the families cheering their students on by their presence, and at times even dancing!

Multiple students shared with me how inspiring it was to listen to everyone play. Here’s to another wonderful semester of music making and learning!

Throwback to the 1st day of school last week here at Jenny Focht Music! We’ve been reconnecting, goal-setting, and learning new skills and music. We have a new mascot around here too: “Yet the Yeti” reminds and supports us to have determination and persistence as we grow in new ways, both musically and personally. “I don’t understand…YET! I can’t play this…YET! Let’s focus on what we CAN do today, so that eventually we can do what we can’t yet!”

I also began a new course toward my master’s in music education at —Elementary Piano Pedagogy! I am so eager to keep learning and growing in order to benefit my students and simply for the joy of it. “Yet the Yeti” is a whimsical reminder to me to keep a growth mindset throughout this process and have patience with my emerging skills, since teaching is truly a lifelong pursuit of learning!

🎶 Last Friday, a handful of my summer students gathered in my home to share music with one another.

💐 We framed this experience as if we were sharing gifts with each other and our families, and played with the intention of how we want our listeners to feel.

🏆 All students, elementary school aged through adult, inspired me and each other with their preparation and bravery!

🍦My students also had a blast enjoying ice cream and playing badminton outside afterward!

💜 Many thanks to my parents and spouse for their assistance with our summer music party!

April 7th was our 2nd piano-versary! It was my dream to own a grand piano someday, in this particular corner of my house, and that dream came true on April 7, 2022. It is an absolute joy to play, share, and teach and learn with this instrument. I love how responsive it is to what I want to communicate. When I play, I feel powerful and expressive. And my students like looking inside to see how an acoustic piano works!

I had a great experience with , who rebuilt this 1952 Steinway M to my specifications. Then I couldn’t believe how quickly the piano movers from Manny’s brought in and set up this piano—it was seriously under 15 minutes, and onto the next piano delivery!!
