Last Friday I had to take Abby to the ER. I was driving us home from a friend's house and she stopped mid conversation and couldn't speak. ER treated her for possible stroke. Abby could only verbalize 1-2 words at that time. CT and MRI showed no stroke thank goodnesss. Initial diagnosis is a complex migraine with Ora and expressive aphasia. We were released on Saturday and instructed to follow up with a neurologist. Her speech has improved from Friday but is still very impaired and very difficult for her to communicate full sentences. The neurologist she saw in the ER can't see us till September. I did however get her an appointment on August 6th with his PA. We leave this Sunday for her annual Minnesota checkups. I'm working on trying to get her a neurology appointment while we are there. I'm also calling today to see if we can get her into speech therapy ahead of the Houston neurology appointment. Her college classes start next month and want to try and get her well to get her off to a good start for the semester.

If anyone has experienced these type of migraines or conditions I welcome any suggestions. Please keep her in her thoughts as we navigate this new challenge.

Bloodwork came back ok yesterday so they sent us home with some different nausea meds. Waiting to get an appointment squeezed in with the clinic hopefully this week since the scheduling desk said the first available is August. Her nausea is a bit better but now she has abdominal pain.

While staying here at Ronald McDonald House the building was burglarized in the middle of the night and several expensive electronics, (large screen TV, Xbox) were stolen along with food for the families here. If you would like to help replace some of the items there is an Amazon wish list link.

The criminals even had the audacity to sit here in the dining room and eat the family meals they stole.

Ronald McDonald House Charities says one of its houses was robbed early Tuesday morning in Minneapolis.

It’s been awhile since I updated her page. We are back in Minnesota for Abby’s annual checkups. We didn’t make it last year due to being busy with her senior year and ankle surgery over the summer. She is doing well and is living her best life by working and attending community college. Yesterday we had her gastro and endocrinologist checkups. They are pleased with her progress and the fact that she hasn’t needed any insulin although we are right before the cutoff where it might be needed depending on todays blood work.

We are having her mixed meal test this morning. She fasts overnight and then they draw her blood for her fasting glucose numbers. She then drinks a bottle of Boost meal replacement and then has her blood drawn every 30 minutes for two hours in order to see how her transplanted islet cells are working.

Abby has a lot of scar tissue and her veins roll from numerous pricks/IVs so sometimes they have to use a vein finder machine to find a good spot. This is what the vein finder does to highlight her veins. Isn’t it cool?

No covid thank god! Still feels crummy but we are back home. Dr. thinks it’s a virus but gave her IV antibiotics just to be on the safe side. Glad to be back at home so I can care for both kids.

Abby’s not been feeling well the last few days and then this morning she spiked a fever. With no spleen her fever of 100.7 triggered a trip to the ER. Her brother is at home with a fever too. Waiting on dr to come evaluate.

About Abby

Most of you know how hard Abby is fighting a rare genetic form of pancreatitis (PRSS1) that causes her excruciating pain, reduces the quality of life, is life threatening and puts her at a 50% risk of developing pancreatic cancer later in life. There currently is no cure for this horrible disease.
