Some moments ask more of us than certainty.

When violence, history, and difference collide, it’s possible to be deeply affected — and to know others are more affected.
To care — and to feel limited.
To hold grief — and still remain accountable.

I wrote a reflection on moral injury, privilege, and what it means to stay human in the middle of something genuinely disturbing.

If you have chronic illness, you've heard this a thousand times.

Gluten-free. Paleo. Keto. Supplements. Detox. Meditation. Exercise. Rest. More rest. Less rest.

And maybe some of these things helped. Or maybe they didn't. Or maybe they helped for a while and then stopped working.

Even when it feels like it.

Even when it's exhausted, in pain, unable to do what it used to do.

Your body is doing its best to protect you, to keep you safe, to communicate what it needs.

The problem is: we've been taught to ignore it, override it, push through it.

We've been taught to treat our bodies like machines that need fixing when they break down.

But your body isn't a machine.

It's a living, responsive system that's always trying to move toward balance and healing.

There's a profound difference.

FIXING says:
"Something is wrong with me"
"I need to push through this"
"If I try harder, I'll get better"
"My body is broken"

TENDing says:
"What does my body need right now?"
"How can I listen more deeply?"
"What supports my healing today?"
"My body is wise"

Fixing is about control.
TENDing is about relationship.

Fixing is exhausting.
TENDing is sustainable.

Fixing disconnects you from your body.
TENDing helps you come home to it.

This shift—from fixing to TENDing your body so it can heal—changes everything.

If a plant is not doing well, do you see it as a flaw or illness of the plant? No, of course not! You examine the environment to ensure it's getting what it needs (not too much, not too little), and nothing it doesn't need (pests, poison, etc.).

This is the philosophy we teach you. And we don't stop there! Your instructors will work with you to learn these tools in your body. And by doing so, you learn to live well with chronic pain or illness, like Long COVID, Lyme, autoimmune disease, or chronic pain.
