Instructors Engelmann and Volz are back on the road again today. This weekend they made the trip up to Ada, MN to work with the Norman County Fire Chiefs association for some Grain Bin Rescue Training.
This is the second time we have made the tripnup to Ada. The first time was a couple ofbyears ago.

Thanks to donations from 11 area businesses the firefighters in this area will be prepared to respond if there is ever an issue.

Saturday SASCS instructors Volz & Engelmann made the trip out to Bryant South Dakota to train the firefighters on grain bin rescue.

SASCS staff and instructors are in shock today after we heard the news of the loss of one of our fellow instructors.
Billy Hurt has been an instructor for Minnesota Fire and Rescue since our first fire school. He originally joined us to work with our Auto Extrication class and last year he also assisted with our Race Car Emergencies class.
Billy would drive up from Missouri every year to help.
It seemed like he was always smiling and laughing,
He was a firefighter in Columbia, MO. and also worked as a sales rep for Alex Air Apparatus. In his "spare" time Billy worked for the American Sprint Car Series and World Racing Group. He attended multiple races every year to assure that the drivers would have the best help possible if a crash should occur.
This year Billy was unable to join us at fire school. Even after I called to give him a bad time about not coming up to see us and how much we would miss him! Billy had already commited to provide safety at a World of Outlaws race in Texas.
Unfortunately, while responding to a sprint car rollover at the track, Billys SxS was involved in a crash.
Our hearts are broken.
We would like to wish Billy's family. Both personal and professional, our sincerest sympathy.

What a weekend!
Minnesota Fire and Rescue 2026 was cut short by the weather. Saturday morning we made the decison to drop the fire school to only 8 hours and not return on Sunday. This allowed all who attended to get a full day of education and still make it make home before mother nature threw her tantrum!
Thanks to the crew that worked tirelessly in the background, We were able to hold the classes and also completely dismantle everthing that we had put together for the school. By 8 pm last night the Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial school was back to the way we found it on Friday at 4pm.
SASCS has a lot of "associates" to thank for assisting us to train firefighters from 4 different states.

Canceled due to the weather. All Sunday classes at Minnesota Fire and Rescue have been cancelled.

They have changed the forecast to 3-5 inches of snow on Saturday night and 3-5 inches on Sunday.
With all of the contingencies that we have built in, we are feeling fairly comfortable still having fire school in Lake Crystal.

Judging by the amount of calls and questions we've received today apparently there is some sort of weather event forecast for this weekend.
SASCS Staff have been watching the weather forecast very closely and at this point Minnesota Fire and Rescue is still on for this weekend (3 - 14 & 15, 2026)
We have had to make some adjustments. There will be warming trailers and some of the hands-on sessions were able to be moved indoors.
I want to reiterate. FIRE SCHOOL IS STILL HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND!!!!!
Who ever thought I would be lining up snow removal!

I stopped in tonight and got a tour of the new basement fire attack burn prop. It will be ready to go next weekend for Minnesota Fire and Rescue.
All I can say is that Mindy N Marcus McDonough is amazing. He took a drawing that I made with a sharpie on his work bench and made my vision come to life.
