I had the privilege of attending The Joint Commission’s inaugural UNIFY Conference in Washington, D.C. last week—nearly 1,000 healthcare leaders and clinicians came together to tackle the most pressing issues in care quality and safety across the U.S. and globally. I left energized and grateful.
What stood out for me:
Innovation with purpose: Real-world AI use cases (e.g., reducing missed appointments and improving access), smarter discharge planning, and even rethinking nutrition’s role in recovery.
Frontline first: Tangible strategies to support clinicians—simplifying workflows, closing equity gaps, and building cultures where safety is everyone’s daily job.
No single playbook: Children’s health, behavioral health, and complex comorbidities require tailored approaches—measure, stratify, iterate.
Practical quality science: PDSA cycles that actually move the needle, transparent run charts, and leading indicators that prevent harm.
Equity as safety: Data-driven approaches to identify disparities and remove barriers to care in ways that fit local communities.
What this means for Circa’s clients and partners:
We’re doubling down on survey readiness that sticks—governance, policies, and frontline adoption that hold up between surveys.
We’re aligning our national compliance framework with current Joint Commission priorities (e.g., health care equity, data stratification, HRO behaviors) so organizations can scale good practice across markets.
We’ll translate UNIFY insights into toolkits, staff training, and measurable dashboards—from ASAM-aligned workflows to language access and SDOH processes.
Thank you to the speakers for your candor, to all attendees for sharing what works (and what doesn’t), and to the entire Joint Commission team for an impactful event. Already looking forward to .
