Where in the world is Wanderlust Nurse (Practitioner) going?

To Chincha, Peru, in June!

I'm going on a medical mission trip to help the local Peruvians. I will be utilizing my Spanish skills to help translate at a health fair, as well as doing small outreach projects in the local community of Chincha, Peru.

I'm looking for donations to help with cost of supplies and to offset travel costs for the group.

Any amount helps! Also, the giving page through the Cleveland Clinic takes no percentage, so the full amount raised is given directly to our group.

Please consider donating :)

I shared this last year, and I still believe this.

Happy Nurses Week to all my comrades in the field. It's not an easy job, but we continue to do it because we love it.

“The MDs build the treatment plan. The nurse’s job is to get it done. We’re the ones who are always there, making sure every single moment of every single day is the best it can possibly be. What’s going to take away that nausea? What’s going to take away that pain? How can we convince the doctor to let this kid see some sunshine? We know when the kid has a play at school. We know which massage therapist they love and which member of the family is most likely to persuade them to take their medicine. These kids rely on certain nurses like they’re gold. A lot of time these kids won’t listen to the doctor. But they’ll listen to their nurse.”

I recently worked a nursing strike out in Los Angeles. It's been almost 4 years since my last strikes in 2012. I would highly recommend it if you're up for making some good money in a short (and hard) amount of time.

Taking another drug test today, although it's to start clinicals (not a travel contract 😞)

I wonder how many times I've peed in a cup?

I'm not very technically inclined, but I managed to use iMovie, with no tutorial, to make a 3 minute introductory video for my newest class. I also had to use something called Handbrake to compress said video. All after working 2-12's, and going in for another. Here's to the start of my summer semester.

An interesting article about one of the hospitals I worked at as a travel nurse. Mount Sinai Beth Israel is severely downsizing & moving to a new location. I had a great experience working there and hope they have a smooth transition.

Employees and community members worried how the downsizing of the Manhattan hospital, which was founded by immigrants, for immigrants, would affect their lives.

While I realize that patients can choose whichever hospital they want, this is definitely the wrong direction to go. Even the reimbursement system is flawed. I want my patients and their families to be happy with the care I give, but ultimately it's my job to save their lives. Where's the check box for that?

A chain of hospitals has a money back guarantee, offering refunds to unsatisfied patients with no questions asked.
