Congrats to Sam Glantz on his first buck. His dad, Ben Glantz is a long time TEAM GRO Member. This deer came into a plot with GRO Winter oats. Love pictures like this and the future of hunting.

My first year of planting "brassicas" was 1992. In 2025, I released the book of brassicas, basically my "life's work." Even though i've been a researcher for decades, every week that I look at my research, I am learning something new. My mom is an expert horticulturist but there was something I taught her last week. Oh, how the more we look at forages, the more I learn and the more I can teach you all.

Current picture from the Watertown WI research blocks. The industry sells forages that yield on a dry matter basis 2-3 ton per acre. G.R.O. sells 3-4 tons. That is 2000 more deer feedings per acre. Does yield matter to you? The value of your food plot is over $200 per acre on that extra ton of growth. Stop and think about that. We sell what most can't.

congrats to Jesse Lenz on this great SW Wisc buck. The back story on it was really fun to hear. He planted a number of GRO blends, including an experimental forage that will be released to the public in 2026.

My son Flynn had been hunting 1000 yards away on the other side of the property but I told him tonight he was sitting with me and was going to kill his first deer. He's always been camera man or hunting buddy. This year, he finally decided he was wanting to hunt "officially." It was the slowest night of hunting i've seen in decades. At about 425 we saw a deer moving 450 yards away and kept walking the fenceline. Then we saw another buck. Instead of entering the woods thru an open gate, they kept coming and coming. This buck stopped right by Grandpa Ray's old stand. It seems so many bucks die right here. I am spiritual and so I just knew today was the day and this buck presented a nice broadside shot for Flynn. The rest is history. A 10 pointer that is not a trophy by definition but in his own eyes. A very nice first buck.

In the aftermath of recounting the events and taking the buck to get processed, he started telling me what we need to do next year to do better. Yep, he's a food plot perfectionist like his dad. I can't be prouder than to be sitting right next to him when he killed his first buck.

Fortress foodplot screening can help you get in and out of your deer stands without being seed. This is a video i shot yesterday walking behind my fortress in a marsh. I have over 1300 yards of fortress in this core area.

My view... every time i see in the distance Grandpa Ray's old stand, I recall the last time i sat in it with him. Hunting has really changed from those days.
