It’s pretty wild the amount of decisions we make each day. Most of these are the monotonous type choices we don’t think too much before making while others require significant thought and consideration before deciding what’s best.

There is SO much that we face in our daily lives that is completely out of our control. This, in and of itself, can spike feelings of anxiety in a lot of people resulting in so much effort being focused on controlling the uncontrollable.

Deciphering the aspects and challenges in our lives that we can control versus cannot can be a really great way to start minimizing unwanted feelings of anxiety TODAY.

It’s true that most times you may not be able to control the outcome of things…but a little bit of acceptance goes a long, long way for these uncontrollable situations. You have the power to decide how you will respond/react and how much focus and energy you give to any situation ♥️

As we move further toward the holiday season, the practice of SELF-CARE often becomes increasingly more difficult to find time for. We’re often busy attending or hosting holiday get togethers, scrambling to finish end of the year projects, or worrying about perfecting our holiday shopping list.

Self-care is actually the MOST important during chaotic times like the holidays. If you yearn for a healthier balance in life or increased mental health - even five minutes of self-care is a great place to start!

This article from verywellmind is a good, quick read to help identify the most common forms of self-care (physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual). And the article says it best: “many people view self care as a luxury rather than a priority.”

I encourage you to evaluate your current self care efforts - how good are you at prioritizing yourself? What current rituals do you engage in? What rituals could would you most like to implement into your every day? What is one way you can think of to if ease your self care regimen by 2 extra minutes a day!?

How often do you find yourself doing things you don’t want to do? Maybe it’s because you’re spread too thin, you’re tired or overworked, or you just don’t FEEL like it!

Learning to say NO when you want or need to say no is an important step in setting healthy boundaries for yourself. Healthy boundaries help regulate the relationship you have with yourself, allowing for increased happiness, feeling more content, and emotional regulation.

Setting boundaries may sound scary or unnatural but it doesn’t have to be a rigid process. Setting boundaries simply helps us to identify behaviors that we will and will not accept from others and allows us to demonstrate to others what they can expect from us. Creating and maintaining boundaries helps improve how we interact with our family, friends, partners, and colleagues and minimizes feelings of disappointment or resentment within these relationships.

We challenge you to think about your own boundaries with some of the most important people in your life. Are your boundaries being clearly communicated? Are they being respected? If you’re struggling with setting boundaries, working with a therapist can help you to identify which boundaries can be most effective in improving your interpersonal relationships!

This is something I say during session almost every single day. It’s so important to keep in mind that just because you think something, doesn’t make it true. It’s your perspective of the situation - one which may be distorted with negative thinking patterns - that can easily convince you your thoughts equate to truth.

Challenging negative thoughts takes increased insight and some practice. With the help of a therapist, you can learn to identify your own negative thinking patterns and replace them with more positive, realistic ones!
