Mental clarity and focus are essential for productivity, mood, and overall brain health. ADHD, anxiety, and brain fog can also affect clarity and focus, but stress, poor diet, and inadequate sleep can also impair cognitive function.

When I first started journaling, I soon found it to become a way for me to increase my awareness of why my health was so challenged. Journaling is an efficient way to change your lifestyle.

Writing down your experiences during the holidays serves many purposes, but one big purpose is to increase your awareness of the foods youโ€™re eating and how they affect your body.

Journaling and tracking your foods, drinks, bowel/urine habits, exercise, and your mental and physical state helps you better connect with yourself.

During the holidays when youโ€™re on autopilot there are things you miss. When journaling, youโ€™ll mentally process your food at least 3 times:
โ— when you eat,
โ— when you write it down, and
โ— when you read it
allowing you to be more in tune with yourself and the food youโ€™re eating.

Actually writing, putting pen to paper, really solidifies the connection in your brain, but you can use any electronic. There are also tracking apps you can use. Just create a system and stick with it, be consistent, and journal as much about your daily holiday experience as possible.

Write down how youโ€™re feeling, include your emotions, as well as energy and physical stress levels. Chart your ups and downs during the holidays. Whatโ€™s important is that you depict a picture of the ebbs and flows of your day.

Remember journaling is for you and there are no hard and fast rules. Youโ€™ll learn things about yourself that will surprise you.

Constantly elevated estrogen levels from alcohol consumption or toxin exposures can lead to estrogen dominance which can trigger thyroid imbalances, sleep issues and mood swings.

Cruciferous vegetables are a staple in an anti-estrogenic type of diet or lifestyle. They contain a compound called DIM (3โ€™3 diindolylmethane) which helps your body remove estrogen through the liver.

Our body is on an internal time clock according to the sun cycles. Based on this internal timer, our body has specific times of day when it does critical functions to help keep us healthy.

๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ช๐—ถ๐˜๐—ต ๐—ฆ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฝ

From 10pm-2am, the body releases human growth hormone to repair damaged tissues or cells and create new cells. This is also when cortisol levels are at their lowest and melatonin hormone peaks to support restful sleep. And from 2am-4am is the liver and gallbladder get to work detoxifying to release toxins.

If we miss these windows of sleep, our body does not shift its internal clock, we simply miss out on these important functions, and our hormones take a hit. Constantly staying up late can completely flip cortisol rhythm, mess with melatonin production and disrupt the rest of your hormones.

Obviously there are some fun-filled and valid reasons to miss some shut eye this time of year, but you can make up for it by banking sleep on the days you can get to bed at a more reasonable hour.

Every 1 hour of sleep before midnight is worth 2 hours of rest!

When you donโ€™t have holiday obligations, be in bed by 10pm or earlier to bank sleep for late nights ahead or to make up for the ones already had.

Getting good quality sleep at the optimal times will help you to wake up feeling rested and make it through the holidays without your hormones being completely out of whack.

Research has shown that Omega-3s can significantly reduce the production of inflammatory substances in the body.

So, what kinds of healthy fats should you indulge in during the holidays?

Omega-3 fatty acids are potent anti-inflammatory agents and are found in:
โ— Flax seeds, chia seeds and walnuts
โ— Avocado on its own, as guacamole or as an oil
โ— Full fat coconut milk in your coffee, tea and/or smoothies
โ— Cold Water Fish, like Salmon, Cod and Halibut
โ— Cold-Pressed and organic olive or coconut oil in cooked or baked goods
โ— Grass-fed ghee instead of butter (less inflammatory)

One of my favorite fat-bomb beverages is vegan golden milk with full fat coconut milk and almond milk, ground turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper and monk fruit or stevia. This can give you a pickup during the day or help you sleep like a baby at night!

I always fill up on fat before I hit a holiday party or aim to eat the fattiest snacks while Iโ€™m there, to keep my hormones happy, my hunger under control, and help me feel better about indulging.

Focus on filling up with healthy fats at least once a day and notice the way it makes you feel more full, more energized and craving free.

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) Test is a marker of inflammation in the body. High levels are associated with increased risk of chronic diseases. This test is useful in assessing overall inflammation levels and monitoring treatment efficacy.

And the Saliva Cortisol test we discussed in Day 1 also helps determine the how your inflammation can be a result of stress.
