Theresa Patterson-Chu has spent over 25 years helping people reconnect with the wisdom of their bodies — gently, compassionately, and at their own pace. Her work is rooted in the Rubenfeld Synergy Method, a somatic, holistic approach that weaves together respectful touch, mindful dialogue, and deep listening to support body-mind awareness and healing.

Known for her warmth, creativity, and intuitive presence, Theresa creates a space where physical sensations, emotions, and inner truth can all be welcomed. Her approach invites clients to befriend their bodies rather than override them, allowing healing to unfold from within.

Theresa is a long-time teacher and leader in the Rubenfeld Synergy community and a valued member of the Mind Body Therapy Collective. Her work offers a gentle yet profound path toward living more in alignment with your body, heart, and soul.

Our new Adults DBT Skills Group offers a supportive space to learn practical, evidence-based skills for emotional balance, resilience, and healthier relationships.

Over the course of the group, participants will practice the four core DBT modules: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness — building tools you can use in real life, not just in session.

Meetings will consist of learning DBT skills in a supportive environment, opportunities to practice applying them in real-life scenarios, and small group discussion for shared learning and peer support.

If you’re looking for help building emotional resilience and balance, improving your communication and relationships, and wanting to feel more grounded in daily life, this group may be a good fit.

Get to Know: Heather Coleman, LCSW!

As a new member of the Collective, Heather brings over 20 years of experience to her work as a trauma-informed therapist — with a deep emphasis on presence, mindfulness, and the wisdom of the body. Drawing from both Western psychology and Eastern thought and practices, Heather creates a therapeutic space that feels grounding, compassionate, and real.

Her approach is holistic and highly individualized, weaving together parts work, somatic awareness, and creative practices to support clients in feeling more resourced in the present moment — rather than overwhelmed by the past. Many clients appreciate her warmth, honesty, and the way she gently invites authenticity into the work.

Heather works with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, complex family systems, recovery, and life transitions, with particular expertise supporting Adult Children of Alcoholics and those in 12-step recovery.

If you’re seeking therapy that honors both depth and gentleness — mind, body, and nervous system — Heather is now welcoming clients.

Winter can feel long, quiet, and sometimes heavy — and it’s also an invitation from the season to rest, reflect, and restore.

Wintering is a time to turn inward, rest, and reconnect with your needs, rhythms, and inner wisdom. It’s an opportunity to reflect, replenish your energy, and gain clarity for what you truly want to carry forward.

This season, consider leaning into gentle practices that nourish your mind, body, and spirit — journaling, mindful movement, meditation, creative expression, time with friends, family and community, rest and warmth, or quiet time in nature. By honoring this slower rhythm, we can emerge with more insight, resilience, and presence.

What are some of your favorite ways to winter?

Parenting a teen with big emotions can feel confusing, exhausting, and isolating. When emotions run high, having the right tools and support can help.

Our Adolescent Multi-Family DBT Skills Group supports teens and their parent or caregiver in learning practical, evidence-based skills for emotional regulation, communication, and coping with stress. Together, families learn the core DBT modules: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.

By learning side-by-side, families build shared language, understanding, and strategies that can be used in real life — not just in session.

If your family could benefit from structured support and concrete tools, we invite you to reach out to learn more and see if this group is a good fit.

Get to know Stephanie Bourgeois and Tessa Vining, Co-Founders of the Mind Body Therapy Collective.

As psychotherapists, Stephanie and Tessa founded the Mind Body Therapy Collective with a clear vision: to create a space where therapists and healers could come together, share their expertise, and grow in community without losing their independence, while bringing holistic whole-person healing to their clients.

Since then, their shared vision has blossomed into a home for dozens of practitioners from a wide variety of backgrounds, offering workshops, groups, and events that bring together traditional, holistic, and body-based approaches to healing. Their work is rooted in collaboration, care, and the belief that meaningful growth happens when we support one another.

Now, the Collective has become a space where professionals can learn, connect, and thrive — and where the Montclair community can access integrative, whole-person care.

Many people start January with high hopes for resolutions — and then quickly feel disappointment or shame when things don’t go perfectly. The truth is, this is completely normal — society can often encourage us to set harsh and unrealistic expectations of ourselves and most resolutions naturally wobble in the first few weeks.

Instead of leaning into self-criticism, try these gentle mindset shifts:

✨ See “failure” as information — every attempt teaches you something.
✨ Swap rigid goals for curiosity and intention — notice what actually supports you.
✨ Focus on small, supportive steps — progress doesn’t have to be perfect.
✨ Choose progress over perfection — noticing what you need is a powerful first step.

Moving forward with awareness and kindness isn’t slowing down — it’s building a foundation for lasting change.

Growing up with an emotionally immature parent can leave lasting patterns — from difficulty setting boundaries to carrying guilt, shame, or self-doubt. It can feel like these challenges are just ‘part of life’, something you have to deal with on your own. But change is possible, especially with support.

Our Support Group for Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents offers a safe, compassionate space alongside others who understand. Over 12 weeks with experience therapist Heather Coleman, LCSW, you’ll engage in guided exercises, writing prompts, feelings check-ins, and open discussion — building insight, self-compassion, and connection.

With a small group of 4–6 participants, this is a chance to reflect, share, and grow in a supportive community.

January is often held up as a “new beginning,” but for many of us, it’s one of the most emotionally challenging months of the year.

Shorter days, disrupted routines, post-holiday exhaustion, and the pressure to reinvent yourself can take a real toll.

That’s why January is Mental Wellness Month — and a reminder to tend to your inner world with intention and gentleness.

Here are a few simple ways to support your mental health this month:

• Step outside for 5 minutes each morning to get natural light
• Reduce one drain on your energy — even if it’s tiny
• Set realistic expectations for your energy and pace
• Find movement that feels good to your body in this season – a simple walk, gentle stretching, dancing at home, or a short yoga practice can all be beneficial.
• Reach out to one person who helps you feel grounded

And if this season feels heavier than you expected, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Our therapists and practitioners are here to support you with warmth, expertise, and whole-person care.

Your mental wellness matters. Reach out when you’re ready. 💛

The quiet after the holidays can feel heavier than we expect.

Maybe the season didn’t go the way you hoped. Maybe it was overwhelming, or lonely, or simply… a lot. And now that everything has slowed down, there’s space for feelings you didn’t have time to process.

If you’re feeling tired, disappointed, unmotivated, or already “behind” in the new year — you’re not doing anything wrong, and you’re not alone.

Instead of forcing a rapid reset, January can be a gentler invitation:
to rest, to check in with yourself, and to choose small, supportive steps that nourish rather than pressure you.

If this season feels heavy, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

If you need someone to talk to, please get in touch. Our therapists and practitioners are here when you’re ready — to listen, to support, and to help you find steadier ground.
