Today I rode my bike, again, to the Venice Pier to catch the sunset. “The Bubble Man” a local favorite here was at it again….making bubbles and more importantly MAKING PEOPLE HAPPY!

And I was happy too! Happy to see their magnificence and to see how so many people young and old, male and female, coupled or solo enjoyed the simplicity of bubbles and the pier!

The night before I watched a beautiful 18 month old enamored by them. My nephews too loved them so much when they were younger….sigh. They remind us “older folk” of more simple times. I sent these videos to friends and everyone felt….joy. So I dug deeper……
“The Science Behind Bubbles and Joy
The appeal of bubbles goes beyond nostalgia and stress relief—it’s rooted in science. The bright, iridescent colors of bubbles captivate the human brain, which is naturally drawn to vibrant visuals. The refracted light on a bubble’s surface creates a mesmerizing rainbow effect, stimulating feelings of awe and happiness. Moreover, engaging with bubbles activates the release of dopamine and serotonin, the brain’s “feel-good” chemicals. These neurotransmitters play a significant role in boosting mood and reducing feelings of stress. The physical activity of blowing or chasing bubbles also contributes to overall well-being, making this simple activity a holistic source of happiness.
Bubbles in Social Settings: Building Bonds
There is the Stress-Reducing Power of Bubbles! They offer more than playful entertainment—they are surprisingly effective tools for stress relief and a natural fit within broader managing stress strategies. These strategies, which include taking a short walk outside to clear your mind, mindfulness, and journaling, focus on creating moments of calm to help improve mental health and reduce the impact of daily stressors.

Blowing bubbles, for example, encourages deep, rhythmic breathing—a cornerstone of mindfulness practice. This type of breathing helps calm the nervous system, lower anxiety, and improve focus. Watching the bubbles float and dance through the air further enhances mindfulness by drawing attention to the present moment, grounding thoughts, and fostering a sense of tranquillity.”

Coregulation is essential because it helps our nervous systems feel safe, connected, and balanced. When we’re with someone who is calm, attuned, and grounded, our body naturally mirrors that steadiness—heart rate slows, stress lowers, and we return to a regulated state more easily. This shared emotional stability supports healthier relationships, clearer communication, and greater resilience. In essence, coregulation reminds us that we don’t have to navigate difficult emotions alone; our connection with others is a powerful tool for healing and well-being.

As we age we want to feel like our most youthful and natural self. I met Dr Yang at my dermatologists many years ago and loved everything about her. She’s so damn smart, kind, gentle and mostly honest! Unless there is scientific efficacy she won’t even consider the treatment! Her standards are high and her skills the best! Always giving her clients their most natural look and caring for the whole person. Xerf is her newest & best device that used sound:radio frequency to boost collagen and reduce wrinkles. No pain. No down time. Two sessions a year and it works!! Go see her at Curiva med spa
