This parasitic disease is frequently mistaken for cancer, IBD, allergies, or unexplained GI issues. By the time the right test is run, precious time has been lost.

In Diesel’s honor, we’re raising awareness about this devastating disease that took our boy far too soon. He fought with strength and love, but his journey opened our eyes to how often this cancer is missed or mistaken for something minor.

Diesel’s Legacy was born from your battle, a battle too many dogs are losing because of misdiagnosis and silence. That ends here.

As many of you know, Diesel wasn’t just a dog. He was a fighter, a best friend, a brother, a healer, and a walking miracle. After a lifetime of beating the odds including surviving Heterobilharzia Americana and colorectal adenocarcinoma ...his journey lit a fire in us. A fire to do more, speak louder, and save others from silent suffering.

✨ That’s why we’re officially starting the process of forming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Diesel’s name:
Diesel’s Legacy Foundation... because his fight didn’t end when he crossed the rainbow bridge.

This foundation will:

What is Heterobilharzia Americana???

It’s not a word you hear every day, but it’s been a part of Diesel’s story his entire life. Heterobilharzia americana is a rare but deadly parasitic disease found in the southern United States, especially in areas with slow-moving freshwater like ponds, bayous, creeks, and ditches....basically Diesel’s favorite places.

This parasite enters through the skin when dogs swim or wade in contaminated water. It travels through the bloodstream and can cause damage to the liver, intestines, and other organs. It’s hard to diagnose, often missed on standard tests, and sadly, it’s often found too late.

Diesel lived with it for years without a diagnosis, and yet, he defied every odd, fighting, swimming, playing, and living life to the fullest. His story is one of strength, but also a reminder of how important early diagnosis and awareness really are.

Please talk to your vet if your dog loves the water and starts showing symptoms like chronic diarrhea, weight loss, vomiting, or abdominal pain. Trust your instincts. Ask for specific testing. Advocate for your pets, they’re counting on us. 💛
