I've been talking about Drishti lately — the yogic practice of focusing your gaze. In class it’s all, “Find a focal point." Meanwhile my focal point in daily life is usually "where did I put my keys?"

Drishti has been calling me out because apparently my focus off-the-mat is:
📱 staring at my phone
😵‍💫 staring at my to-do list
💭 staring at my own thoughts like they’re a Netflix series

This is where "Ahimsa," the guiding principal of non-harming in word, thought and action, sneaks in. When I’m stuck in screen-gaze or mind-gaze, I’m basically missing the entire world around me. My inattention to the big picture becomes a tiny, accidental harm not only to the people near me, but to myself.

When I'm only focused on one thing, each interruption takes 100% of my attention. If I can widen my focus to be more encompassing of my current environment and being present for the people right in front of me, then each interruption steals only a small portion of my attention. Interruptions become a less overwhelming sensation, and I'm more engaged in the "now."

So I’m trying something new:
• Look up more.
• Notice actual humans.
• Practice “soft eyes” instead of “scroll eyes.”
• Maybe even see the sky once in a while.

Wild concept, I know. But turns out life feels way more gentle when I’m actually engaged with it.

Postpartum exercise isn’t just about “getting your body back.” It’s about strengthening key muscles to support your newly stretched out connective tissues.

During pregnancy, your body spent nine months expanding, shifting, and adapting to make space for new life. Hormones like "relaxin" softened your ligaments and joints to prepare for birth, and they don’t disappear overnight. That’s why in the early postpartum months, we focus on **stability** before depth.

Postpartum movement helps:
💪 Reconnect your core and pelvic floor
🦵 Build joint stability before returning to deeper movement
🫀 Improve circulation, mood, and energy
🧘‍♀️ Support your nervous system as your body contracts back toward its new equilibrium

I'll never shame you into "snapping back” to your pre-baby size. You’ve moved forward, and your body deserves to be met where it is today, inside and out.

📩 DM me for the link to register!

At Be Well, we offer postpartum classes like "Mommy & Me: Fit Together" (taught by Lori) and "Baby & Me Yoga" (taught by me). They're designed for you to rebuild strength, restore balance, and reconnect with the person you’re becoming — inside and out.

Your body has changed. That’s not something to fix. It’s something to understand, support, and celebrate. 💛

– A heartfelt thank you to Natanya Wachtel (center) and Steve Robinson (left) of YogaSix Shrewsbury for organizing a thoughtful wellness event aimed at supporting First Responders with practical tools and resources.

As a movement specialist, I shared packets of exercise sequences designed to complement strength training routines. Each included functional movement and yoga poses to support the hips, spine, and shoulders—areas most often strained in this line of work. We brought the moves to life in a 45-minute class that left everyone moving a little easier.

In attendance were officers—active duty, retired—and their families (because it really does take a village). I'm so grateful for their open minds and willingness to try something new.

Shoutout to the crew from who participated—stay tuned for more from them!

I'm truly thankful to have been included and to offer even a small measure of support to a profession that gives so much to keep us safe.

Curious about Strong Backs, Steady Minds—my program for stations, firehouses, or precincts? Shoot me a DM to learn more.

This event is also a fundraiser. Moment of Silence is a nonprofit organization founded to support, promote and develop programs for our law enforcement, military, and first responder communities. They take pride promoting two main missions: Blue Su***de and Youth Community Outreach.

Blue Su***de raises awareness about the epidemic of su***des amongst law enforcement, military personnel and first responders.

The Youth Community Outreach program reaches out to at-risk inner-city youths through a holistic approach of one-on-one mentoring, providing guidance, employment, and education assistance. They strongly believe that the relationship between law enforcement and the youth is a priceless and worthy endeavor.

Living in a state of fight or flight takes a huge toll on a first responder's body. Breath work and a yoga practice can help your body process the stress and bring your nervous system back to a calm but alert state. Learn more about how stress manifests itself physically in the body in this article from The Blue Magazine

By: Joel E. Gordon The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is a branch of the autonomic nervous system that controls involuntary bodily functions in response to stress or perceived danger. It prepares the body for the "fight or flight" response. I can remember that as a ne
