On one’s journey of growth, through heightened awareness, one may experience strong feelings of happiness, peace, harmony and contentment.
Yet I don’t think anything can prepare you for what is experienced at the other end of the spectrum of awareness.
Awareness is defined as the knowledge and understanding that something is happening or exists.
More specifically, it is the ability to directly know and perceive, to feel, or to be cognisant of events.
It is making the unconscious conscious.
Yes, heightened awareness will result in feelings of euphoria, gratitude and bliss.
But what so many tend to find along the way is this: the highs get higher and the lows are reflected in equal proportion.
Welcome to shadow-work.
This means becoming conscious of the suffering and limiting-beliefs that belittle and restrict your freedom.
Facing your shadow takes courage, perseverance, self-discipline and radical responsibility. It means consciously resurfacing the uncomfortable, painful and sometimes scary emotions that we have spent X amount of time burying.
The realisation of self-sabotaging thoughts and behaviours that we’ve been consoling due to subconscious programming is life-changing.
For anyone interested in self-development, figuring out what is holding you back from your natural state of being is KEY.
Being able to step out of the emotions and become the OBSERVER to the bigger picture takes PRACTISE.
Practical Steps:
1. Meditation: conscious breathing is the quickest and easiest way to practise becoming present, grounded and aware.
2. Fasting: not only does this significantly enhance your mind-body connection, it also installs self-discipline.
3. Reflection: take the time to acknowledge what worked and didn’t work. What triggered you and what lit you up. What challenged you and what you overcame. Knowing yourself on this deeper level will refine and excel you towards building a life of freedom, prosperity and abundance.
This kind of work will open you up to a whole new level of consciousness but there are no shortcuts. After all, there are no shortcuts to places worth going.
