A promising new clinical trial for women with recurrent ovarian cancer is underway at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center.

The trial—developed by Dr. Joe Delaney, Dr. Brian Orr, and supported by donor Matt Prisby—will test existing drugs already approved for other conditions, giving hope to patients who have few remaining options.

This “bench-to-bedside” collaboration shows how scientific innovation, compassionate care, and community support can change what’s possible in cancer treatment.

Learn more about how we're in cancer care:

A new clinical trial for women with recurrent ovarian cancer is an outgrowth of a long-term partnership between a researcher, a donor and physicians.

Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, a time to honor the love and loss carried by so many families.

At MUSC Health, our palliative care and perinatal teams walk beside parents through unimaginable moments, offering compassion, comfort and space to grieve and remember.

As MUSC nurse practitioner and Distinguished Professor of Palliative Care Dr. Carrie Cormack shares, “Acknowledging this day acknowledges the loss and the love that many families carry for their child.”

Her advice for people whose loved ones or friends have suffered such a loss? “If you hear this news about someone, be present, acknowledge that loss, talk to them about it, don't be afraid to bring it up. It won’t remind them that they went through this. They haven’t forgotten.”

The MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital will hold a Pediatric Service of Remembrance on Oct. 18, at Charles Towne Landing’s Founders Hall, starting at 3 p.m.

As people mark Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, NP who helps families cope with loss said it's s a reminder that they’re not alone.

“The thing that punched me in the gut after I got diagnosed was when I took my son to the doctor for his yearly checkup, they had to put in his chart that his mom has cancer, and for some reason, it just knocked the wind out of me.”

Getting diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age with two kids at home is the last thing you’d ever imagine, but for 33-year-old Pamplico resident Lauren Kennedy, the unthinkable diagnosis became her reality.

On April 7, Kennedy was diagnosed with breast cancer at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center after she discovered a lump in her breast. The hardest part of her diagnosis wasn’t the cancer itself but how it began weaving itself into her family’s everyday life.

Preterm birth is the leading cause of complications and death in newborns, and South Carolina has some of the highest rates in the nation.
