If you are involved in CrossFit or are just interested in fitness in general, you may have heard of the hero WOD Murph. Murph is named after Michael Murphy, a Navy Seal, who lost his life in Afghanistan in 2005. Murph involves a 1 mile run, followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, and 300 squats followed by another 1 mile run. All of this is to be performed while wearing a weighted vest (20 lbs for male and 14 lbs for female). This workout is typically performed on Memorial Day or Memorial Day Weekend. For a lot of regular gym goers, this is their first CrossFit workout. I know that it was mine.
If you are interested in doing Murph on Memorial Day, you should be starting your prep now, especially if you are going to be performing it in vest. You should start adding in some weighted vest activities and practicing your push-ups, pull-ups, and air squats.
Murph is 600 reps with a mile run on both sides of it. There is no shame in scaling the run, the reps, or both to meet your fitness level.
