Alcohol, antibiotics, and ultra-processed foods don’t just “mess up your gut”—they actively reduce microbial diversity. Over time, this creates an environment where opportunistic bacteria and fungi can overgrow, crowding out the beneficial species that support metabolism, immunity, and hormone balance.

Rebuilding that ecosystem takes strategy, not randomness. Spore-based probiotics and compounds like lactoferrin can help gently rein in problematic microbes without nuking everything further. Then you layer in targeted fibers—like HMOs and partially hydrolyzed guar gum—to selectively feed and regrow beneficial species, restoring balance from the ground up.

Fix the terrain, not just the symptoms. A resilient, diverse microbiome is built—not forced.

Sun tolerance isn’t something you force—it’s something you build.

Developing a ‘sun callous’ is about gradually training your body to handle UV while supporting it internally.

Small, consistent sun exposure helps upregulate your natural defenses—melanin production, antioxidant systems, and cellular resilience.

At the same time, your internal environment matters:
a well-functioning metabolism, balanced minerals, low inflammatory load, and a healthy gut all influence how your skin responds to sunlight.

When those systems are in place, sunlight becomes a signal for energy, circadian rhythm, and hormone health—not just a stressor.

But jumping into long exposure without that foundation?
That’s when you see burns, oxidative stress, and inflammation.

Build your tolerance like anything else:
slow, consistent, and supported from within.

The goal isn’t to avoid the sun—it’s to become resilient to it.

Eye bags aren’t just about sleep—they’re a reflection of your internal environment.

1. Poor cellular metabolism = low energy
When your cells aren’t producing enough energy, they can’t regulate fluid properly → water leaks and pools under the eyes.

2. Gut dysfunction = inflammation
An unhealthy gut increases endotoxin and stress signals, making capillaries more permeable → puffiness and dark circles.

3. Overburdened liver = poor fluid control
If the liver is overwhelmed, you get impaired hormone clearance and lower albumin → fluid escapes into tissues (hello under-eye bags).

It’s not a cosmetic issue—it’s a metabolic one.

Fix the system, not just the symptom.

If your hair is thinning and frizzy, the outer third of your eyebrows is disappearing, and you’re constantly cold… that’s not random — that’s low energy.

These are classic signs that your metabolism isn’t producing enough energy at the cellular level. Hair and skin are “luxury tissues”, when energy is scarce, your body downregulates them first to preserve vital function.

Low thyroid function → reduced glucose oxidation → less ATP → less heat, less regeneration, less resilience.

So what do you get?

• Hair that won’t grow properly, dries out, or sheds
• Loss of the outer eyebrow (a hallmark of sluggish thyroid function)
• Cold hands, cold feet, low body temp. Your metabolism literally slowing down

But this isn’t just cosmetic.

Chronic low energy shifts your body into a stress-dominant state:
• Higher cortisol and adrenaline
• Poor digestion and nutrient absorption
• Increased inflammation and fibrosis
• Impaired detoxification

Over time, this environment sets the stage for bigger problems:
• Hormonal dysfunction (infertility, low testosterone, PCOS patterns)
• Autoimmune conditions
• Chronic fatigue and burnout
• Degenerative diseases
• Even cancer, which thrives in low-energy, hypoxic, poorly respiring cells

And if you’re experiencing these symptoms when you’re young?

That’s the red flag.

Because it means your baseline metabolic function is already compromised, and left unaddressed, that trajectory doesn’t improve with age.

High energy = structure, warmth, resilience, regeneration
Low energy = breakdown, stress, degeneration

Your body is always telling you which direction you’re heading.

The question is whether you’re paying attention.

Your hormones aren’t the problem, the environment they exist in is.

I see it all the time- gut issues and hormone issues go hand in hand.

When your gut is overrun with the wrong bacteria or fungal overgrowth, it throws off how your body handles estrogen.

Instead of clearing it out, you start reabsorbing it, now you’re dealing with excess estrogen on top of everything else.

At the same time, that imbalance drives inflammation and slows down your body’s ability to detox hormones properly.

That combination is where things start to spiral:
• infertility
• PCOS
• endometriosis
• heavy / painful periods

If you’re only focusing on hormones and ignoring the gut, you’re missing the root.

Fix the environment, the hormones follow.

Chicken ‘gyros’! These are so easy to make, delicious, and can be a great way to pack so much flavor into a quick dish.

Cut your chicken into thin strips and season accordingly. I used Journey co Greek citrus rub with some salt. You can use anything you’d like! Sear that chicken in some butter, and chop it up once it’s fully cooked.

To make your tzatziki sauce, combine 1c Greek yogurt, 2-3tbsp EVOO, 3-4tsp dill, and ~1/3 of a cucumber, grated. You’re supposed to remove the juice but | like adding it in for extra flavor. I also added in more of the citrus rub.

Cut up tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions (l used pickled onions), lay down a sourdough tortilla (or pita bread if you wanna be authentic), spread your tzatziki sauce on there, add your chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions, top with feta! I used parm cheese bc I didn’t have any.

So many people walk through daily life thing their gut is just the way it is: not pooping, excess gas, diarrhea, certain foods sending you to the bathroom, unable to digest others, etc.

If your gut isn’t able to digest anything, or if you’re not pooping at least twice a day (or once without any other problems), or you constantly have loose stool, acid reflux, and so on- you’re dealing with an unhealthy ecosystem, which has a domino effect in just about every facet of health you can think of.

Don’t just brush it off, or accept it as normal. It could be the main catalyst as to why you develop cancer in your 50s, or Alzheimer’s in your 70s. You should be able to thrive until your 90s-100s, comfortably.

Heavy metals are a major problem. They come from our tap water, soil, cosmetics, personal care products, drinking cans, pollution, and much more. Some people will deal with acute exposures from work, especially the military, welders/ironworkers, mechanics, and more.

Minerals are needed to trigger and support reactions throughout the body. Heavy metals are a problem because they can mimic these mineral ions, and replace minerals at binding sites, and then reactions get weaker and eventually nonexistent, degrading function of a given target organ.

Chelating heavy metals with supplements can be super helpful. Modified citrus pectin from Pectasol, or shilajit from Mitolife are two good options. Shilajit can be loaded with toxic metals if it’s not purified, hence why I only trust Mitolife.

Jokes aside, your gut is one of the primary organs that dictates the health of your immune system.

Do you want the ability to fend off colds and viruses that everyone else is getting, destroy cancer cells, and more? You need to build up a healthy gut.

Communal microbes entrain white blood cells to stay primed, alert, and ready to tackle anything. If you have an unhealthy gut, this will lead to your immune system being constantly bogged down, distracted, where pathogens can take hold and wreak havoc.

When you truly lock in, remove bottlenecks in the system such as your gut health, metabolic health, heavy metal load, nutrient deficiencies, etc, living in moderation is genuinely so easy and allows you to enjoy life without taking steps back.

The body HATES to change. It will stay the same at all costs, so it takes an overwhelming signal to trigger an adaptation- positive or negative. If you wanna build up an area of your health, you need to lock in for a temporary period, and then go back to enjoying yourself.

For instance, if you’re overweight and insulin resistant, you’re likely not going to be able to indulge a little bit for a short period of time because those off days can very well keep you in the same spot. However, if you build up your health, lock in temporarily, you’ll be able to indulge and maintain a high baseline

I don’t typically like to drink, I don’t feel good doing so the next day, and I don’t really get much out of it, it’s more social. However, I built up my gut health to a point where I feel comfortable drinking, even getting drunk, and not worrying about major setbacks. My ecosystem is already built up to a pretty resilient state.

These concepts can be used for so many other examples. If you wanna life in moderation, but are trying to accomplish a health goal, build up your foundations first.
