Soul Care: Considerations & Wellness-Centered Strategies for Clinicians of Color

Clinicians of Color are faced with unique challenges such as discrimination,marginalization, and exclusion. These experiences are being managed inaddition to their clinical work as mental health professionals and healers. Many of these experiences are limited or avoided altogether in traditionalconversations on self-care, leaving Clinicians of Color vulnerable to psychological distress such as burnout.
Engaging in decolonized practices that support the well-being for BIPOC clinicians is essential for two key reasons: retention and adherence to ethical practices. Absenteeism is a potential negative consequence of burnout which poses as a problem because Clinicians of Color can improve access and care for BIPOCindividuals, are more likely to engage in research relevant to BIPOC populations, and are more likely to facilitate multicultural competentconversations. Furthermore, Clinicians of Color have an ethical responsibility to monitor themselves for impairment as identified in the ACACode of Ethics.

Are you a Tennessee licensed clinician seeking a qualified clinical supervisor designation? The Tennessee Licensed Professional Counselors Association (TLPCA) is providing the required 12-hours of training to become an approved clinical supervisor to supervise clinicians working towards LPC-MHSP licensure October 11-12, 2024 in Memphis, Tennessee. This is the last of the 2024 training dates and locations.

This two-day in-person training will cover the foundational elements of becoming a counselor supervisor as required by Tennessee Board for Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Marital and Family Therapists, and Licensed Clinical Pastoral Therapists. Attendees may choose to attend one day only.

The Parent Mental Health Workshop is back! This workshop is dedicated to Missouri and Kansas parents and caregivers. It is a place to ask questions, gather information, and become familiar with local mental health and school based resources for students and caregivers. During the workshop you will receive tips on how to promote resilience and reduce anxiety, obtain information on children and youth mental health, tips on self-advocacy, and learn about school based and local community mental health resources. Grateful to serve with Dana Combs of Best Life Therapy KC. She is a licensed professional counselor and Registered Play therapist who is a former elementary school teacher and high school counselor.
