Go outside!
Play with your dog or kids!
Try something new!
But most importantly….

PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN AND DO SOMETHING.

All caps are harsh, I know that, especially for the millennials out there. But go do something that doesn’t involve scrolling and commenting and reading other comments.

We all read social media posts from friends and from strangers and create our own narrative from the one side that is put out there. Go outside, do something new, take a walk, talk with real, in person people and enjoy the nice change in weather.

Gift yourself peace by putting that load of laundry away. Washing those dishes. Finishing up tiny work jobs. No one can relax with all the unspoken stress in the back of their mind.

Okay team…give yourself peace…and go drink some pumpkin spice 🤣

The argument about dirty dishes…the argument about piles of laundry…the argument about your hair in the shower or sink…is not about any of that.

Those are proxy arguments.

The really issues? Love and respect for our spouses and partners in the house.

We do the chores not simply because chords have to be done, but because it makes our partner’s lives a little easier. Because we love them. Because we respect them.

Sometimes it’s hard to reach behind the day to day exhaustion and load the dishwasher before bed or switch the laundry over or throw the ball for the dog.

Relationships, marriages, partnerships…they are amazing. But they’re built on pillars of love and respect that transcend monetary value.

If you find that you and/or your partner struggle when it comes to these areas, I’d love to help you confront those uncomfortable truths. Reach out via phone at 8432789537 or PM. I’d love to help you alone or you both confront current resentments and challenges and find the love and respect your relationship began with.

Last week was heavy and my heart has been heavy since. I have two children who are 10 years apart. They will grow up in two different generations.

Parents. Raise your children to be independent: independent thinkers, independent problem solvers. Give your kids permission to grow apart from you. They are supposed to. They are supposed to experience struggle and be able to solve it. It’s good for their brains, their nervous system…because struggle doesn’t leave ever.

Struggle doesn’t disappear because they’ve landed a full-time job.
Struggles doesn’t disappear because they have a degree.
Struggle doesn’t disappear because or when they get married or have kids or have a family.
Struggle also doesn’t disappear when you give them a landing place indefinitely.

Give your kids the skills to succeed in life. Allow them to struggle young so when they’re older, they can problem solve. Allow them to grow apart, so when they’re older they want to be closer. Allow them to have their own ideas but also challenge them so they know how to respond when someone who isn’t a loving and caring parent does.

Allow yourself to be real and vulnerable with your kids as well (age appropriate of course). As parents, we want to appear protective and powerful and perfect. But we’re not. I struggle days and it shows in my parenting responses. I zone out like my oldest does…and it disappoints her as much as it disappoints me when she does it. Be real with your kids on their age level. They deserve to know that parents aren’t perfect; that we’re like them; that we still as adults struggle too and persevere.

Starting off my Saturday with coffee in a Christmas mug and a book while the baby rolls and crawls along the floor. It’s a good self-care time for me.

I used to think of self-care as something like a massage or getting your hair/nails done, or working out, or having girl time with friends and certainly those are important, but it’s not the only way to have self-care.

Self-care for me is making sure my space is clean and clear: mentally and physically. Just as I physically can clean my house, put laundry away, wash dishes, I mentally have to do my chores too. Often for me this looks like making sure my worn for the week is completed, not reading comments on political posts on Facebook (I’m bad yall), not allowing myself to dwell on wishes and wants instead turning those thoughts into solutions and things that can be done. I used to try to have everything perfect and now I simply try to solve for peace in my life.

What are you doing for yourself this weekend that can bring you more peace in the long run?

Hitting a blank when asking yourself that question? Call or message me to set up an appointment. I accept BCBS, Aetna, and United/Optum. I’d love to sit with you and help you get more peace in your life. 8432789537

If you have a kiddo or a grandkid or close friend with kids who have ADHD, sensory issues, or is on the spectrum, going to this workshop is a must. Dr. Turner and the team at Impact Chiropractic are so much fun, knowledgeable, and eager to share their knowledge, that this workshop is a must. Since beginning care there, I have learned so much about the nervous system and how it works in real time. I’ve used that knowledge to gain insight to my kid who has ADHD and help her more.

Instead of jumping to medications and dropping kids off to therapy sessions, let’s go learn about the root causes of these issues and other ways to help them.

Have you ever been in a relationship whether it’s work, friends, romantic where things just fell apart and it left you looking back saying “I knew it”? If you have, and most of us have at some point, turns out there’s a truth to that. In most cases we all default to the assumption that the other person is telling the truth even if our gut is screaming at us that something isn’t right.

Our society has told us to not listen to our body when it tells us something is up. Let’s start making a turn to be more in tune with ourselves and tap in to what our gut is telling us.

If you’re interested in starting this journey but isn’t sure how, give me a call at 8432789537, send me a message, or fill out the contact form at tapinsc.com

Welcome to Monday’s coffee hour. I hope everyone hast started the week off on a good foot. However, if you’re struggling with the Monday blues, remember to put down the phones on your work break and connect with someone over your break or lunch. If you must use your phone, drop a line to a friend or family member who can lift you up and lift them up as well. Connection is where all constructive things start. If you feel like you and your spouse or your family isn’t connected, make a point to get off the phones and tv and talk to each other.

If you feel like you struggle to connect with others and you can’t figure out what’s going on, feel free to reach out to me, Anna, at Tap In Counseling in The Soulfish Center. Give me a call at 843-278-9537 or a text at 843-254-5030. Or fill out a contact form at tapinsc.com

Happy Monday!
