I’ve been reflecting a lot on reciprocity, integrity, and valuing people’s work.
You wouldn’t go to a doctor and expect free medicine or ongoing counseling without payment or an agreed exchange. You wouldn’t go to a pharmacy, rack up hundreds of dollars in prescriptions, and say, “I’ll get you back later,” with no follow-through.
For some reason, holistic work and herbal medicine are often treated differently — as if advice, formulations, time, and product should just be given away. That doesn’t sit right with me anymore.
Reciprocity doesn’t always mean money. It can be trade, bartering, or work exchange — but it does mean clear agreements and follow-through. Without that, it becomes imbalance, not community.
I’ll own my part: I allowed things to go on longer than they should have because I care and I want to help. That’s a boundary I’m strengthening.
Moving forward, I’m choosing relationships and clients rooted in honesty, integrity, trust, and mutual respect. My work has value, and so do I.
This is about clarity and growth — not resentment.
