Meet Marissa, one of our amazing Program Directors, whose passion and dedication shine through in everything she does. We’re so proud to have her on the BTS team and grateful for the positive impact she makes every day!
“I "BTS" because of the ability to learn and grow. I started at BTS as a supervisor while I was attaining my first Master's in Developmental Psychology. At the time, I was also a single mom with an amazing and wild toddler. BTS allowed me the flexibility to learn, grow, support my family, and progress in my career. During the process of obtaining my hours and graduate certificate, my son also had speech delay and sensory processing issues that caused some big behaviors. Experiencing some of the same things our parents experience with their children, such as being nonverbal, aggressive behaviors, and having my son in different speech and OT therapies, my passion for the field only grew stronger. At BTS, I had the pleasure of learning from amazing people (shoutout to my BCBA supervisors, Lisa, Sarah M, Shari B, Emily L, and I'm sure so many more) not only how to become a better clinician, but also a better advocate for my clients and my own kiddo. So many innovative solutions and strategies were modeled for me that I still use today with clients, as well as with my son. My home has its own calming corner and ABA emotion posters and pillows, as well as sensory toys galore. My biggest wins are seeing my clients who were nonverbal begin to be able to communicate, and the joy the family has when they see their kids reach certain milestones. One of the best days of my life was the first time my son said his first sentence, and I feel so lucky I can get to be there for other families when they experience some big firsts. I am excited to continue to learn and grow from other people's styles, solutions, and knowledge - both personally and professionally.”
