Grateful to receive the ASHA ACE Award for the second year!
Over the past 3 years, I’ve completed 144 hours of continuing education. Not out of obligation, but because staying curious and up to date is a priority to me. My practice is rooted in thoughtful, evidence-based care while meeting families where they’re at. Ongoing learning helps me show up better for the families I work with, and I’m forever thankful for their trust in me.

Here’s to another year of learning!

Built with Magnatiles + big speech wins 🏰

This castle wasn’t just for play—it was part of therapy!Target words were written on the Magnatiles with an Expo marker, and before each tile could be added, the child had to say the word and erase it. Motivation was high, reps were built in, and learning felt like play ✨

Other ways to use Magnatiles in therapy:
🏰 Write WH-questions on tiles and answer before building
🏰 Target articulation sounds by labeling each piece
🏰 Practice following directions (color, size, location)
🏰 Build narratives: Who lives in the castle? What happens next?
🏰 Work on turn-taking and requesting during shared builds

Simple materials. Intentional targets. So much engagement.

📚 Book of the Week 📚

This week’s pick is Goodnight, Indiana University by Joey Lax-Salinas as a special shoutout to my alma mater ahead of them playing in the College Football Playoff National Championship game this weekend! It is a sweet bedtime story that introduces kids to the IU campus and its iconic landmarks. The rhythmic, predictable language makes it perfect for supporting early literacy, vocabulary development, and listening skills while winding down at night 🌙

Such a fun way to share school spirit with little ones while building language at the same time.

Go Hoosiers! 🎉🏈

“Reclaim”, my word of the year, defined 2025. My time, my energy, my direction.

In 2026, I’m choosing “root”: settling into what I’ve reclaimed and allowing it to grow. I can’t wait to see where this next year takes me (and the goose!) 🤍🎇

☃️❄️ Do you want to build a snowman? ❄️⛄️

Rolling snow and stacking snowballs might look like pure play but it’s also an incredible opportunity to support speech and language development in a natural, meaningful way!

Here’s how building a snowman targets so many communication skills:
⛄️ Vocabulary: snow, cold, big, small, round, hat, scarf, carrot
⛄️ Following Directions: “Roll the snow,” “Put it on top,” “Add the arms”
⛄️ Sequencing: first roll → next stack → then decorate → last admire
⛄️ Core Words: more, on, off, big, help, want, done
⛄️ Requesting & Commenting: “I need help,” “It’s heavy,” “I want the hat”
⛄️ Describing: cold, wet, heavy, tall, melting
⛄️ Prepositions: on, under, next to, in front of
⛄️ Social Language: turn-taking, problem-solving, teamwork
⛄️ Articulation Practice: repeated, functional practice of target sounds within play

These real-life, hands-on experiences create the best opportunities for language growth especially when kids are motivated and having fun.

Save this for your next snowy day or share with a family looking for easy, screen-free ways to build communication skills this winter 🤍

☕❄️ Hot Cocoa = Speech & Language Gold! ❄️☕

Making hot cocoa together might feel like a cozy winter tradition, but it’s also packed with opportunities to build communication skills!

Here are just a few ways this simple activity supports speech and language development:
❄️ Vocabulary: cocoa, marshmallow, hot, cold, stir, pour, sweet
❄️ Following Directions: “Put the packet in,” “Pour the milk,” “Stir slowly”
❄️ Sequencing: first open → next pour → then stir → last drink
❄️ Core Words: more, in, out, help, done, want
❄️ Requesting & Commenting: “I want marshmallows,” “It’s hot!”
❄️ Describing: warm, chocolatey, yummy, too hot, full
❄️ Social Language: taking turns, asking for help, sharing materials
❄️ Articulation Practice: natural repetition of words with target sounds in a meaningful context

The best part? Kids are more engaged when language is paired with something fun (and delicious). These everyday moments are where real communication grows 🤍

Save this for your next snowy afternoon or tag a parent who needs easy, language-rich activity ideas!
