I am a non-profit organization and rely on help by good animal loving people like you. Welcome to our page where we are dedicated to saving and caring for feral felines in our community through the power of education and the practice of TNR. My name is Rusti, and I have built a little bit of kitty heaven. I am dedicated to saving as many ferals as I can and am passionate about educating others on

how to combat the astronomical numbers of feral cats world wide ! I release most ferals I trap but will keep all kittens, pregnant mommas and sick or injured kits. The kits I have at my facility now are ones that never left once released or have a lower survival rate in the swamp, so I have integrated them into my existing colony. It's hard work and it's not cheap, but I do what I can with what I've got. School is in !! Rainy season is almost upon us and the kits are gearing up and learning how to survive the flooded swamp !
As our grounds flood and the water rises, every insect and critter is looking for higher ground ! This most often means that our enclosures become a safe haven for all sorts of dangerous and more often annoying critters that are looking for that dry spot. The EMC kits have become accustomed to dealing with baby animals like opossums and armadillos and smaller predators like wolf spiders and snakes. It happens every year and it never gets easier. I have also had to adapt to creepy, crawly, and jumping critters when I least expect it... so the EMC swamp school is a class you don't want to skip ! 😺

Nina is one of the Soprano clan, but you don't get to see too much of her. She is quite playful but spends most of her time napping and hidden away in my bedroom. When she does come out, she loves bags and boxes and has a habit of stealing all the washcloths out of the bathroom closet. Yes... she has learned how to open up ALL my doors, so every morning I have to go from room to room and collect what she has scattered throughout the night ! 😼

Construction is at a halt for now !!
I have had a tough time getting fencing. I wanted chain link but both ' possible donations ' fell through. I am super bummed about this. The fencing we have always used, which is the 2 X 2 kennel wire has been out of stock for months !! This purchase was not in my budget. I need to remember that even if somebody says they will do something, that they don't always come through for you. So the kits might just have this view for a few more weeks until I can figure out what to do . For now, the original catwalk as you see here, runs straight through the new enclosure area until we can get some fencing. Rainy season is right around the corner and I am getting very anxious about the kits not having this shed area to take shelter in. The nice part about all this is that the kits seem to enjoy the scenery and all the different things to look at and sniff. I, on the other hand, have been sniffing lavender to help me calm down. 😸 🤪

TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THIS !!
Can I just say that my heart skipped a few beats when the ' bobcat driver ' was dumping loads of base rock into the new enclosure area OVER the existing catwalk!?!
He was literally inches away from the top of the wire but ran that machine like a pro !
You gotta look closely, but you can clearly see the catwalk underneath of the bobcat machine. There was no other way to get that rock where we needed it without him dumping it up and over ! I thought this was a great capture of what has been taking place here as we progress in our renovation. 😼

Candy has always had to have one paw in the water bowl before she will drink it. Silly ??
Cute, maybe, but there are reasons kits do this. Cats are not attracted to still water, so many times they will create their own ripples. They also may be ' testing ' the water for safety and for depth. If they have sensitive whiskers, they could also use their paws to gauge the sizes of the bowls to ensure they can drink comfortably. Know your Kits !! 😼

I know that since he ' retired ' from swamp life that many of you miss seeing him in my videos. I will try harder to include him more when I am filing. I created this piece with baby Jalapeno in mind. I watch him and his playful antics all day long and am always delighted and fully captivated by his zeal for life.
No other kit can walk past him without getting pounced on, or at least get the outstretched paw as they pass. He also has a very distinct meow. It's not even a meow, really, but more of a ' broken sound ' that he makes. It's hard to describe. I'll try hard to get it on a video.
