Do you ever think about the chemicals in your house or toxins in your air? The EPA states that the air inside our homes are 2-5x more polluted than outdoor air in urbanized cities.

Now that we’re staying in more than ever, it’s critical to think about the health of our home and its direct impact on us! I released a new blog post today in regards to this topic, and would love for you to take a few minutes and read it.

I started creating a more toxic-free living space and when I began I remember feeling so overwhelmed!! Where to start? What’s safe? What chemicals are harmful? How harmful? To simplify the process, I’ve included 5 swaps that are easy to implement.

As the coronavirus spreads, we have the ability to place a bigger focus on prevention and strengthening our immune systems. There are so many tactics for reducing our risk of acquiring common colds, the flu, and even coronavirus...and two top ingredients are pictured above! Can you guess what they are?!

In all honesty...The BEST prevention practices are 1) wash hands for a full 20 seconds with warm water and soap 2) avoid touching eyes, mouth, and nose 3) maintain 3” from a sneezing or coughing individual 4) wipe down/disinfect frequently touched surfaces (*hello cell phone*) 5) cover yourself when sneezing or coughing using your elbow or a tissue.

Below I am featuring 3 immune boosting foods to start incorporating in to your diet!

1) Ginger - a natural antimicrobial agent and immunostimulant (WHOO). It helps elevate our defense mechanism against bacteria and different pathogens.
2) Garlic is an immunomodulator, meaning it directly stimulates immune cells!
3) Turmeric which contains curcumin, acts as an immunogenic compound which means it helps activate the growth of immune cells

We’re all told to drink more water, but do you actually know why?💧 Water is the most biologically active molecule in the human body. Secondary to oxygen, it’s the next most essential substance for life and a crucial part of proper training. Anywhere from 45-75% of the body is composed of water and it is necessary for vital functions to be carried out such as those listed in the graphic.

Fluid balance is easily regulated under normal conditions, however, extreme temperatures and physical activity can challenge this homeostasis. Extreme sweat, thirst, or fatigue may occur as indicators that your body NEEDS fluids! Thirst is not felt until ~2% dehydration, and a 1% loss is enough to adversely impact performance.

Proper fluid intake during exercise can result in lower core temperature, lower heart rate, lower perceived exertion, better performance, higher stroke volume & cardiac output, and more skin blood flow.

As it starts to become colder outside, we still need extra fluids even though we’re not sweating as much so make sure you’re hydrating yourself properly!!

There is no special method to measure fluid status, but here are a couple: urine color (dark yellow vs. light yellow- B vitamins may impact color), and rapid changes in body weight after intense exercise (16-20oz/pound lost during exercise).
