✨Taking a little break!

Decided I’m going to take a little break from Instagram for the month of November!

I am feeling pulled to opening up more time in my life for the most important things: growing my relationship with Christ through studying scripture + meditating on that and focusing on being a more present mom 🤍

‼️Hang around though…because there are LOTS of exciting things I’m working on right now: my website, lab-reading training (YAY!), an ultimate clean swaps guide (it will be free!), more content, etc. As much as I love sharing and connecting on social media, it does take up a lot of time and becomes stressful at times (and addicting😬).

I am continuing to work on my own healing — which mainly involves stress relief! This is SO important. It’s not only the normal stuff you think about with social media (scrolling, information overload, notifications, etc) but also physical stressors like EMF exposure and issues with vision/eye health, posture + unnatural light exposure esp at night (did you drop your phone yet?😂).

If you are feeling the stress and overwhelm of social media at any time, I encourage and challenge you to take a break as well! Even just one day a week.

While I’m away, all of my discount codes and links will still be in my bio. You can also get King coffee and Beautycounter samples there too ☕️ 💋

My heart in all of this is always to help other with their health, so if you do have a pressing question or need a recommendation, feel free to reach out to me via email: beautycounterkarina@gmail.com (can email me for Beautycounter gift cards too!).

LOVE to you all - see you soon!! 🤍

Anyone taken a break from IG recently?! How was it??

✨Canned Food Swaps

Whether it’s the not-so-ideal (and just downright toxic 😝) ingredients that canned foods contain or the chemicals lining of the can that could leach into your food (especially acidic foods like tomatoes and also some foods are cooked IN the can, like beans — these will tend to leach more)... there are always better options!

I’d say it’s probably best to stay away from cans when you CAN (🤪) but making small changes is the key!!

Here are some Better and Best options in my opinion 👍🏽

PS - for beans, I recommend choosing dried organic ones then soaking + sprouting before cooking!

Let me know if you use have any of these better/best options in your home 👇🏼👇🏼

✨”I feel fine…”⁣

I hear this statement a lot when it comes to health. When I discuss toxin accumulation + the importance of switching out products + eating cleaner foods, most people say, “But I feel fine”…⁣

I don’t think people know just HOW fine they could feel by switching to a cleaner, healthier lifestyle (their current state/how they feel is their current “normal” - they’re just used to it). We live in a very reactive, not proactive, society. We wait until we have a health crisis or reach rock-bottom then make changes (or maybe don’t!🙈).⁣

Most people don’t think about the effects of chronic toxin accumulation in the body (ie, using toxic products day after day). You probably don’t see IMMEDIATE ill effects right? You don’t swipe on a conventional deodorant + develop cancer overnight.⁣

So, you don’t worry about it. You continue to live your current lifestyle, use toxic products, eat crappy food, etc. Not a judgment on you - this is just what we have done our entire lives. This is the case for most people, actually, as chronic diseases + cancer continue to drastically rise in the US. ⁣

Just bc you eat a processed food, take a medication/injection, use a conventional product, inhale artificial Fragrance, drink chemical-laden tap water, etc + don’t immediately die DOES NOT MEAN it is “okay” + that you’ll be “fine”. ⁣

People are not thinking about the cumulative/chronic effects of these things. ⁣

What happens down the line as these toxins + poor lifestyle choices accumulate? Maybe you develop some symptoms, ignore them or get put on some medication to silence them + continue your lifestyle. You keep shifting to a new state of what feels “normal” - even if you feel like crap. (See my Symptoms + What is Normal posts).⁣

I am here to tell you: THERE IS A BETTER WAY🙏🏼⁣

Don’t wait to change your lifestyle. You can start SMALL. Keep going! Be proactive, not reactive. ⁣

And maybe some people truly do not care. But, if you DO, I am here to encourage you + help you simplify this seemingly overwhelming process of switching to a cleaner lifestyle. ⁣

Comment below + tell me something you’ve swapped out to make your home cleaner + healthier lately👇🏼

✨Breast Health⁣

As you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I think while it’s good to be aware of this dis-ease that’s becoming more common (1 in 8 women receiving this diagnosis in her lifetime), I think it’s more important to encourage lifestyle changes that can help PREVENT types of cancer like this in the first place. These tips are great for overall health + healing too 👏🏼⁣

To support breast (+ overall) health:⁣

* Movement - even light exercise is beneficial ⁣
* Move Your Lymph - wear looser-fitting clothing; go bra-less when you can (definitely at night!) + find less-snug bras (True & Co, Pact, Irie); dry brush w/ attn to the breasts/armpits; exercise, walk, jump/bounce, just get moving!⁣
* Limit/Avoid Alcohol⁣
* Limit/Avoid Processed Foods - eat organic, real foods; cut out foods w/ inflammatory oils + limit restaurant food⁣
* Animal Products - for milk, eggs, meat/fish, check your sourcing! Look for grassfed/finished, raw, organic/no antibiotics or hormones, no corn/soy feed, pastured, wild seafood⁣
* Sleep! See my post on Sleep for tips⁣
* Ditch the Plastic - use glass for food storage; do not heat your food/drink in plastic; use glass or stainless steel water bottles⁣
* Manage Stress + Emotions - stay rooted in scripture + prayer, seek out a Christian counselor, spend time in nature + w/ supportive community⁣
* Reduce EMF Exposure - see my EMF posts/highlight⁣
* Support liver + estrogen clearing - castor oil packs, coffee enemas, etc; consume beets, artichokes, dandelion root tea, raw carrots, broccoli sprouts, etc⁣
* Use Nontoxic Products - avoid ingredients like parabens + use a clean deodorant; ditch nonstick Teflon pans⁣
* Rethink Birth Control - use natural means of BC (Take Charge of Your Fertility book, FAM) + work w/ practitioner to address underlying hormonal issues + post-birth control syndrome if coming off of birth control of any kind⁣
* Use Screening Tools - self-exams, thermography, blood lab panels + hormone or mineral testing like HTMA to detect underlying issues/deficiencies; avoid mammography if possible as exposure can increase cancer risk ⁣

✨ Thrive Market Picks (pt 2)

Thrive Market is my favorite online grocery store! I have been a member for a few years and I love that I can get my favorite healthy foods at a discount (and I don’t have to go to a store - win!).

There are 2 membership options: month-to-month at $9.99/month or yearly for $59.95 (comes out to ~$5/month).

Also awesome: for every membership purchased, Thrive donates a membership to someone in need 🤍

✨Gratitude⁣

Practicing gratitude has made its way into the mainstream lately for its amazing benefits for our health. ⁣Gratitude literally changes your brain.⁣

Gratitude can reduce symptoms like anxiety + depression that inundate our society these days (mainly because of our stress levels and our chronic health issues). It not only can boost emotions like happiness, kindness + compassion for others but ALSO has positive physical benefits such as: reducing chronic pain, improving sleep and decreased overall bodily inflammation (which is the main driver of chronic disease - see my Inflammation post👍🏽). ⁣

Developing an attitude of gratitude simply requires practice. You can make it a habit and actually retrain your brain to default back to gratitude!⁣

✨Where to start:⁣

1. Grab a small notebook or journal 📓 ⁣
2. Put it by your bed or by your sink (whatever you will see 1st thing in the morning) 🌅 ⁣
3. Each morning, write down 3 things you are grateful for! ✍🏽⁣

It’s as simple as that. You can continue by incorporating this in the evening (or writing down 3 great things that happened each day). Be consistent, stay in prayer during the day and you may notice some changes sooner than later 🙏🏼⁣

These things you list do not have to be BIG things. There are lots of big things to be grateful for, but take time to think of the small things too (like that cup of King coffee you drink each morning ☕️).⁣

Gratitude helps us experience joy. This is a more deep-seeded happiness despite our circumstances in this earthly life.⁣

As says, you can NOT feel fear + anxiety when you feel gratitude. ❤️⁣

✨ 5 Favorite Parenting Books⁣

There are so many different ways of parenting! There’s almost TOO much information out there on the subject these days, I think 😆⁣

I respect every parent’s methods of parenting (and really, it’s none of my business anyway…), but if you are looking for some books that have been integral in shaping the way we approach parenting Clara, here you go!⁣

I like books that treat children as people and do not focus solely on behavioral outcomes (ie, how I WANT her to act/what I WANT her to do). ⁣

I think it’s also important to remember each day that God chose US to be Clara’s parents and that she does not belong to us but to Him. We are just stewards for her in this life and hope to continually point her back to Him ❤️ ⁣

A lot of parenting is modeling. Implementing more respectful parenting methods depends on the state of MY heart/mind, so continually reading book #1 below 😉 keeps me rooted. Definitely not perfect at any of this and have been amazed at how much Clara actually teaches ME and how much God is refining me through the process of parenting! Makes me realize more and more each day how much I need Him 🙏🏼⁣

My 5 Favorite Parenting Books:⁣

1. The Bible ⁣
2. The Montessori Toddler by Simone Davies⁣
3. A Theory of Objectivist Parenting by Roslyn Ross⁣
4. How to Talk so Little Kids Will Listen by Joanna Faber⁣
5. The Whole Brain Child by Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson⁣

You better believe I have another stack of parenting books I haven’t gotten to yet… so stay tuned for future favorites 😁⁣

See my post on my favorite books for raising healthy kids too!⁣

What are your favorite parenting books?! Tell me below then share this post to help other parents/future parents 👇🏼🙌🏼

✨Tips for Better Digestion⁣

Digestion issues are suuuuper common today. There is definitely more awareness of the importance of gut health in general (see my Gut Health + Leaky Gut posts!) but there are some basic ways you can improve your digestion right now!⁣

Top Tips for Better Digestion:⁣

👩‍🍳 Cook your own meals so you are smelling + seeing your food before eating. This signals the body to start producing digestive enzymes + saliva which is a crucial part of digestion. Some people may want to take digestive bitters (like ’s) prior to eating or take digestive enzymes with their meals.⁣

💆🏻‍♀️ Take 5 deep breaths before you start eating to get your body calm (digestion slows WAY down when you are stressed).💆🏻‍♀️⁣

🙏🏼 Pray over your food prior to eating. I always ask God to help the food nourish my body so that I may feel well + energized enough to serve others and carry out His greater plan + purpose of my life to the fullest. God provided us with whole, real foods so we can function and feel our best!

📱 Put phones, TVs + other distractions away for the entirety of your meal. Even for just 10 minutes, sit and focus on the food in front of you. ⁣

🦷 Chew your food thoroughly. We tend to shove food down our throats in larger chunks that take a lot of energy to digest + are much more difficult to get nutrients from. Chew at least 20-30 times per bite, until your food resembles a mush. ⁣

💧 Hold off on drinking any liquids just prior to, during + for at least 30min after a meal. Liquids mixed in with our food will slow digestion, plus they encourage less thorough chewing (we never want to “wash down” our food!) ⁣

🍽 Overall, slow down the whole process of eating when you can. A slower pace is better for our digestion and less stressful on us. Grab a good friend (that doesn’t stress you out🙃😉) and ENJOY your meal! ⁣

Personally, I am currently working on the breathing before a meal + putting my phone down while eating!⁣

Which of these tips do you already incorporate?? Which ones do you need to work on? Tell me below then share this post! 👇🏼

✨Buy These Organic ⁣

Save this post and then take a screen shot to take with you to the grocery store 🛒⁣

Many of you tell me that you would love to switch to buying more organic foods but they are just so expensive!⁣

Here’s a simple place to start ➡️⁣

The Environmental Working Group puts out an updated Dirty Dozen list each year of the top 12 foods found to contain the MOST toxic pesticide residue 😝⁣

So, the list of 12 above = BUY ORGANIC. ⁣

The EWG’s Clean 15 list contains the least amount of pesticide residues, so they are generally safer to purchase non-organic.⁣

You do not have to immediately overhaul your budget and start purchasing ALL organic foods. Slowly, over time, you can start incorporating more organic foods into your budget. ⁣

Remember (tough love here😘), at the root of this issue of expenses, it’s all about what you value and are prioritizing. Definitely takes a mindset shift (I went through this too!). ⁣

Create a budget. Use an app like where you plan AHEAD what you are going to spend each month (not just balancing a checkbook). Over time, you will see where your money is really going and maybe work toward re-prioritizing.⁣

Americans on average spend WAY less of their household incomes on food compared to other countries (~6% of household income vs ~10%+ in European countries). Annnnd our health outcomes… well, they aren’t that great. Possibly a correlation there… 😏⁣

Ok, budgeting lecture over 😆 I can post more on that in the future if anyone is interested.⁣

Share this post to your stories to help out your friends with their shopping! See my Organic Food post for more info :)⁣

What are some things you could cut out of your budget to incorporate more real, organic foods? Personally, I have cut down on eating takeout/restaurants food and I do all spa/nails/etc treatments at home 👍🏽

✨ What is NORMAL?⁣

Since I learned about some of the major root causes of what can cause chronic diseases + health issues that have become commonplace in our country, I have worked toward leading a lifestyle of lower-toxin living. 🌱 ⁣

Artificial ingredients in the food we eat, chemicals in our tap water, toxins in the products we put on our bodies, air we breathe, EMF, pharmaceutical products we consume/inject, negative emotions etc ALL contribute to our bodies’ toxic load. Our bodies were not meant to handle all of these toxins. We reach a point of “overflow” + symptoms/dis-ease shows up.⁣

Living this type of lifestyle is considered WEIRD. 🙃 It’s WEIRD: to feed your family organic whole foods, to filter your tap water, to only allow clean-ingredient products in your house, choosing providers who help us get to the root of health issues, to choose to rely on + support our God-given immune system instead of relying on pharmaceuticals, + to then prioritize your budget to support this lifestyle.⁣

It’s WEIRD to be proactive. It’s WEIRD to even think about these things. I’ve heard people say before, “Why don’t you live a little (or let your kid live a little)”? The thing is… I am 😏⁣

What’s NORMAL in our world, in fact, is making us sicker. Most people drag through life w/ chronic issues, unable to live to our fullest potential as God intended. ⁣

These toxins that can contribute to chronic diseases didn’t always exist. Why don’t we start shifting our mindset + make what’s considered WEIRD -> NORMAL. 🙌🏼⁣

It should be NORMAL to: drink clean water, not have pesticides on our food, eat real food without dyes/chemicals/rancid oils/etc, use natural + safe personal/home products, reduce EMF exposure when we can, strive for optimal lab work instead of normal labs, feed our children real food (not “kid food” - don’t even get me started on that😜), take care of our emotional health, + feel vibrant, full of energy + free of disease as our bodies were created.⁣

Maybe these things will never be considered “normal” in the mainstream… until then, I guess you can keep calling me weird 😆👏🏼⁣

Tag the other weirdos in your life in the comments below 👇🏼🤣
