The Tennessee Association of EMS Providers joins our air medical community in mourning the loss of Pilot Mike Atzert, a Clarksville Resident.

Mike served Tennessee and Kentucky with unwavering dedication, safely transporting countless patients and crews over the years. His commitment to service, his steady presence in the most critical moments, and the professionalism he brought to every flight will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest sympathy to his family, his colleagues, and everyone whose lives he touched. The EMS and air medical communities stand with you in grief and in solidarity.

Thank you, Mike, for your service to the people of Tennessee and sureoubding communities. We honor your life, your work, and your legacy.

The Tennessee Association of EMS Providers acknowledges the emergency response currently underway near Cairo Bend Road in Wilson County (as it is being reported in local news), where a Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopter has crashed. Officials report multiple victims, including the pilot and attending medical crew.

As a professional association representing EMS providers statewide, we offer our deep respect to every responder involved—from flight crews to local fire/EMS and law enforcement partners. We recognize the challenges of this moment and reaffirm our commitment to supporting safety, resources, and peer care across the service line.

We ask our membership to keep the affected team in your thoughts, to provide encouragement where you can, and to take care of yourselves and your colleagues during this difficult time.

A Letter from the President

Dear Fellow Providers,

As we close out the summer and step into fall, I want to take a moment to thank each of you for the incredible work you do for EMS across Tennessee. Our profession is built on long shifts, hard decisions, and the drive to serve others—and your dedication continues to inspire me daily.

This season brings new opportunities for growth and collaboration. We are looking forward to several upcoming events, including the Region 2 EMS Directors Association Conference, which is a great chance for networking, education, and strengthening our collective voice. TAEMSP remains committed to representing your interests, both at the legislative level and within our EMS community.

One of our key focuses this year is ensuring that the next generation of EMS providers is supported, mentored, and given the tools they need to thrive. Together, we are shaping a future for EMS in Tennessee that is strong, united, and sustainable.

I encourage each of you to stay engaged—whether that means attending conferences, sharing your ideas with fellow providers, or simply taking the time to check in on a colleague. Small actions create big change, and your involvement is what makes TAEMSP a true community.
