If your client is bracing, tensing, or guarding, you should not be trying to force your way past it. YOU ARE TRAUMATIZING YOUR CLIENT!
Seriously! You are creating a trauma injury response which is going to increase tension. Force doesn’t fix anything.

A client literally said to me, “I had no idea I could get a massage that wasn’t painful.” That about broke my heart. 😥
Harm doesn’t heal.
You have to listen to the cues from the body on the table otherwise you’re just reinforcing tension patterns and keeping your clients stuck.

If you’re a client and not seeing results, feeling more tension after sessions, or have a therapist that doesn’t listen to you or your body, it’s time to move on and find another therapist.
