Lincolnway Special Recreation Association LWSRA provides recreation for individuals with disabilities in its eight-member park districts. Please note that this page is not monitored 24 hours a day.

Since 1976, LWSRA has provided recreation services for children and adults with disabilities through a cooperative agreement with Frankfort, Frankfort Square, Manhattan, Mokena, New Lenox, Peotone and Wilmington Park Districts. LWSRA supports residents residing in our member districts by offering more than 200 programs annually and through inclusion services. Comment and Posting Reminder:

🏀 Wheelchair Basketball Fundraiser Game! 🏀

Come out and support the Hawks at our annual fundraiser game as they take on FSD 157C! It’s always a fun and competitive night that helps support LWSRA programs and our athletes.

📅 Thursday, March 12
⏰ Doors open at 6 PM
📍 Hickory Creek Middle School, 22150 S Owens Rd in Frankfort.

Admission is an open donation at the door, with all proceeds benefiting LWSRA.

Sandy Robertson, LWSRA's very first director and one of the driving forces behind the creation of LWSRA, stopped by to share her stories from the early years and reflect on how the agency has grown since it first opened its doors in 1976.

She also had the opportunity to tour our new building — a full circle moment seeing how far we’ve come!

LWSRA has been on the move with our recent PE Takeovers! 🏀🏐🏈

Our PE Takeovers bring inclusive recreation directly into schools — our staff takes over PE classes for the day and give students the opportunity to play wheelchair basketball, sit volleyball, goalball and more.

Recently, we had the opportunity to support the University of Illinois Adaptive Rec Day, where college students experienced adaptive sports in action. In addition, we teamed up with Gateway Special Recreation Association for multiple PE Takeovers in Elmhurst.

From elementary schools to college campuses, we’re grateful to help spread awareness and give students an experience they’ll remember forever!

About LWSRA

Since 1976, the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association (LWSRA) has provided adaptive

and special recreation services for individuals with disabilities through a cooperative agreement with Frankfort, Frankfort Square, Manhattan, Mokena, New Lenox, Peotone and Wilmington Island park districts. LWSRA is an integral part of the overall recreation services of each of our partners. LWSRA programs are for individuals from preschool through adult who have recreation needs that are not met by regular park district programs. Also available for residents of the above park districts: Door-to-door service for some programs and inclusion aides for those, after an evaluation, deemed appropriate to participate in regular park district programs with an aide. Participants of LWSRA programs and events not only have fun, but make friends, increase physical activity, enjoy new experiences, and refine social and life skills.
