It’s that time of the year again and Access Health Louisiana is gearing up for the 5th Annual Access Health Louisiana “Washington Parish Drug Take Back”.
Washington Parish Sheriff officials will be in attendance to intercept medications turned in to discard
Each year has been a progressive success in prescription collections. Access Health Louisiana partnered with the Sheriff Department and collected 37lbs of unwanted medications in 2024. This helped greatly with keeping medications out of the hands of those that it may not have been of benefit. Washington Parish has had many challenges with Substance Use Abuse, and Access Health Louisiana has been steadily working to make a difference by educating the community regarding Substance and Opioid Abuse via annual drug take backs, Finish Strong Youth events, distribution of deterra, Narcan, fentanyl strips, offering Medication Assisted Treatment, counseling, and psychiatry services. This initiative is another great opportunity to assist Washington Parish Residents with safely discarding their unwanted medications. Our sustainability community major partner this year is Healthy Blue. There will be turkeys & a lite lunch given away to those that turn in unwanted medications (while supplies last). ONE TURKEY PER CAR. Any AHL Staff interested in coming out to volunteer & support this great outreach is welcomed.

Access Health Louisiana partnered with AmeriHealth Caritas St. Tammany Parish and other community partners and provided health screenings like blood pressure/glucose/HIV screenings, cancer prevention education, Diabetes & Hypertension Educational Resources, healthy food options, stress less resources, Medicaid information and connected community residents to other vital resources. This event offered free meals, Games for children, Vision screenings, Flu Shots, AHL giveaways and a free raffle.

The tradition of “Tour Da Parish” de parish bernard parish cycling race showcased 100’s of cyclists. There was music and free food along with other vendors and resources provided. Access Health Louisiana offered health screenings in the mobile unit and prevention education resources, shared information about St Bernard Community Health Center’s Primary Medical Care/Behavioral Health, Pharmacy, and Medicaid Application services plus more. The LA Crawfish Queen drew the winning raffle ticket for the Access Health Louisiana self care basket.

On October 22nd, at the St. Charles Parish St. Charles Council on Aging, Inc. and Senior Center in Destrehan and Luling, Access Health Louisiana offered health screenings, giveaways, educational health resources, a fun educational game where all Seniors were able to participate and free raffles for a chance to win an AHL Basket.

Mammograms and other screenings were completed during St. Tammany Parish Spark the Cure Fest! Access Health Louisiana provided the blood pressure/glucose screenings for participants including Sparky the Firefighter! Resources such as Healthy eating options, cancer and diabetes prevention information were offered. Stress less resources along with Access Health Louisiana’s Medication Assisted Treatment information was provided . St Tammany Community Health Center Primary Medical Care/Behavioral Health Care, Pharmacy, and Medicaid Application services were promoted. There were children activities offered by the Lacombe Fire Department , free cooked food on behalf of 's Cafe llc of Lacombe, drinks provided by Pepsi and cookies by Subway . Access Health Louisiana raffled off a nice self care basket.
