Kicking off this week with another ! Dr. Audina Berrocal is a pediatric retina specialist and world leader in the medical and surgical management of retinopathy of prematurity and pediatric vitreoretinal disorders. Dr. Berrocal has been instrumental in the description and management of pediatric retinal disorders. She has advanced the use of fluorescein angiography in pediatric vitreoretinal disorders improving outcomes. She has also taken care of an inner-city Neonatal Intensive Care Unit weekly for the past 20 years preventing blindness among the premature. Furthermore, she has been the first surgeon to treat the youngest patient in the United States with the first FDA-approved gene therapy. Not only is she a unique clinician and outstanding surgeon, but she devotes time to teaching and the support of women in the field of ophthalmology and retina. A to the coronation of current NOAO Board President, Dr. Brandon L. Davis! As New Orleanians, we have a flair for the dramatic and thus were born the official presidential garb. 2018-2020 President, Dr. Bruce Barron, began the tradition when he commissioned the GORGEOUS presidential robe, and every new president adds on an element. We are excited to announce that Dr. Christina Weng will be one of the keynote speakers at our 72nd Annual Symposium! Dr. Weng is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and the Vitreoretinal Diseases & Surgery Fellowship Program Director at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She is involved with multiple clinical trials; these include the DRCR diabetic retinopathy trials and the AGTC Phase 1/2 intravitreal gene therapy study for X-linked retinoschisis. We are honored to host her here in NOLA on February 9-12, 2023. Join us to hear her lectures on shocking retina cases, ergonomics in surgery, and post-cataract endophthalmitis!
