“Cave” Paintings —- we found a big box, Lysol’s the heck out of it, cut a sunroof, and the boys got to work drawing secret “cave paintings.” They loved this activity so much that I had a hard time getting them to break for lunch!

I knew my highly active son wasn’t going to sit down to do any name recognition activities today, so I made a letter game into a race! It was really quick and easy to put this fun, reusable activity together. I put his name with big letters on a poster board, then put more of his letters on separate pieces of card stock.
Then I hid the stock papers around the house and told him it was a race to find his name letters! He had to find a letter, then bring it to his poster and match the letter to his name. Lots of indoor running, lots of laugh, and lots of secret learning!

The most social interaction we are getting these days is from passing our neighbors on walks and stroller rides. So we decided to turn our thoughts into FASHION (look it up 💁🏼‍♀️) and make social t-shirts! You can get inexpensive blank t-shirts in all sizes from craft suppliers, plus a box of rainbow fabric markers. My oldest told me his ideas and I helped him draw it on the shirt. I let the kids basically scribble all over my shirt so that I could have one too. Then we did a fashion show for my grandma from >6 feet away! 🦠 My 3 year old won the creativity prize with his “Go Away Coronavirus” design 😛

Egg Hunt practice!
🥚 🥚 🥚
With Easter approaching 🐣, now is the time to have your little ones practice their egg hunting skills! Let them hide the eggs, stuff the eggs with their own ideas for “prizes” (mine chose fruit snacks), and you can hide the eggs for them.
Last year, my son was too nervous to compete in the Easter egg hunt with other kids from our church. So I had planned on doing a couple practice runs this year so he would know what to expect and feel more confident this time. Of course, now we will be having a private socially distant egg Hunt, but it’s still a fun way to pass the time ⏰

If you see the video from my previous post, you’ll see this genius idea using a huge bin for sensory play. It causes fewer spills and the kids are contained and enthralled. We started with a couple of bags of dried beans. But then I upped the ante and bought a huge 40 lb bag of deer corn to bring the farm to the porch for this activity.

This was my genius idea 💡- get a sensory bin so big that it’s near impossible to spill (the beans, in this case) and the kids are trapped safe and sound for a few minutes. Put your feet up and relax for a pure 10-15 minutes, parents!!

I know lots of families are fighting their stir crazies by taking lots of walks. Mix it up with a nature walk followed by creating art with what you find on your walk! 🍃 This can also be an opportunity to discuss interesting vocabulary words and concepts with your child - like private vs public property so they don’t try to pick flowers from people’s yards, what weeds and wildflowers are, and so on. Talk about what you see on your walk and bring a container to collect leaves and flowers.

This activity was verrrrry exciting for my boys yesterday. We put up a tent (we only had a beach sun tent, but it did the job) in the backyard and had a picnic, complete with popsicles for dessert, in our tent! This can also be done with a fort. Also, we don’t even have a yard. We did this in our driveway. You can sit on a yoga mat to protect those bums from a hard ground.

Taking daily walks is great for exercise, fresh air, and getting the wiggles out! Today we used our walk as a Dandelion Hunt. We found wild dandelions and made wishes on them.
I wished for everyone to get through this time with as much health and peace as possible. My son whispered his wish, but I couldn’t help overhearing. He mumbled something about, “I wish that tree over there would fall down so I could hear it go BOOM.” I’m glad that his wish is so weird and cute.
