Hi, it’s Liz, just checking in.

I’m thrilled to report the 2023 Louisiana Speech Language and Hearing Association (LSHA) Convention in Baton Rouge, LA was a success!!

I spent the weekend geeking out over dysphagia research (duh), the science behind thickened liquids, chronic coughing, end of life care, awake craniotomy (!!!), and even found myself attending presentations that weren’t in my realm of work, such as the link between gut bacteria and autism presented by Dr. Luna, which was simply amazing.

I caught up with old friends, made some new friends, and connected with researchers and university professors from all over the state.

I also renewed my position on the Board of Directors as Treasurer for 2024 and will be working tirelessly to plan next’s year’s convention with our wonderful board members, so I hope to see you there.

Have a great summer! β˜€οΈ

Happy 5th birthday, sweetheart 😍

Before Ollie, there was Dysphagia in Motion and it was my first baby. I poured my heart and soul into this company, bootstrapped it from the ground up without any financial assistance and against all odds.

People told me the idea wouldn’t work in New Orleans, that we were too resistive to change. Luckily, I’m pretty stubborn and generally don’t give af about what most people think. So I went down to the French Quarter during a brainstorming session, had a few drinks, sketched up the logo on a bar napkin (where the best ideas happen), and a few months later, my baby was born. I’m still so proud of what we’re able to accomplish in such a short amount of time.

This profession means the world to me. I’ve given 7+ years of education and thousands of hours of continuing education, volunteer time, conferences, and travel to obtain every single certification so that I can better understand the ins and outs of how the swallowing mechanism works (and I still have more questions than answers) and it never feels like enough. But that’s okay.

I did a guest lecture recently and my advice for new clinicians is always to first and foremost: live your life. This career can be unforgiving and has the potential to chew you up and spit you back out without apology. So live your life first, unapologetically, so you can fall in love with what you do. And don’t take yourself too seriously, it makes work so much harder. I will never apologize for doing this my way. Cheers to 5 years! πŸ₯‚πŸ’•

PS. Special shoutout to my friends and the SLPs who have supported me from day one. I still remember every single person who showed up to that first CEU event I hosted in Central City before this company grew and grew. Y’all inspire me to be better.

Our Story

Since opening our doors to patients back in 2017, Dysphagia in Motion has been a leading Swallowing Diagnostics Provider for patients in the South Louisiana region. We care about the well-being of our patients and guarantee top of the line diagnostic services to help your rehab team get them back to full health. Contact us today and see how we can help improve patient outcomes at your facility.

We offer Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), a gold-standard, evidence-based procedure that can be performed at the patient's bedside with no barium consumption or radiation exposure. Using the flexible endoscope, we're able to visualize the swallow in a patient's natural eating environment to assess swallowing function.

FEES is a cost-effective alternative to Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS) at 1/4 of the price with no transportation or mileage costs to your facility.
