Sometimes the “why” behind a movement is just as important as the movement itself.
In this sequence, we’re building strength and stability through the legs while waking up the upper body. Drawing the elbows into the ribcage activates the muscles that support healthy shoulders and better posture. As the hands open wide and the arms stretch outward, the chest broadens, the shoulders strengthen, and we create space across the heart and lungs.
Meanwhile, bending and straightening the front knee builds strength and endurance in the legs while encouraging mobility in the hips. Combining upper body engagement with lower body movement challenges balance, coordination, and focus - bringing the whole body into the practice.
Movements like this remind us that yoga isn’t just about stretching. It’s about cultivating strength, stability, and awareness from the inside out.
