Influenza vaccination is associated with moderate reductions in severe outcomes: pooled analyses show a 42% reduction in influenza-associated hospitalization, 36% reduction in death, and over 50% reduction in ICU admission and need for ventilatory support, with the greatest benefits seen in children and in seasons with a good vaccine match.
