Research has shown that simply petting a dog lowers the stress hormone cortisol, while the social interaction between people and dogs actually increases levels of the feel-good hormone oxytocin.

Oxytocin is produced in the hypothalamus, a part of the brain. Females usually have higher levels than males.

It is sometimes referred to as the “love hormone,” because levels of oxytocin increase during hugging and or**sm. It may also have benefits as a treatment for a number of conditions, including depression, anxiety, and intestinal problems.

Oxytocin also has social functions. It impacts bonding behavior, the creation of group memories, social recognition, and other social functions.

Highly suggest playing with, fostering, or adopting a puppy for optimal oxytocin levels 🐶🥰

Your body does not produce its own selenium. All selenium must be obtained through food or supplements. Once ingested, the element is broken down into enzymes called selenoproteins. These enzymes are essential for the activation of thyroid hormones. So, while iodine tends to get most of the credit for thyroid health, it cannot actually carry out its function without help from selenium.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Selenium deficiency can look like:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

•infertility⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•muscle weakness⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•fatigue⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•mental fog⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•hair loss⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•weakened immune system⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Make sure you are incorporating at least 55 milligrams daily of selenium. Foods high in selenium: Brazil nuts, eggs, oatmeal, fish.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Seed cycling is one of the easiest ways you can support your hormones in a gentle, yet effective way. This simple practice helps support balanced hormone levels, reduces PMS symptoms, boosts fertility and can help stimulate menstruation if it’s absent (amenorrhea).  While seed cycling alone isn’t a cure-all, when incorporated consistently (especially with other hormone stabling practices) it’s a great way to take advantage of the healing powers in food.

Seed cycling aims to balance estrogen and progesterone levels by eating 1-2 tablespoons of flax and pumpkin seeds during the first half of the menstrual cycle (follicular phase) and 1-2 tablespoons of sunflower and sesame seeds during the second half ( luteal phase).

Seed cycling works best when the seeds are raw and freshly ground, as grinding the seeds increases absorption. There are many ways to consume the seeds, including:

* Making fresh seed butter (to enjoy with fruit or toast)
* Making a raw seed-based granola
* Sprinkling seeds on salad
* Blending seeds into smoothies
* Mixing seeds into salad dressing
* Adding seeds to chia pudding, oatmeal, or yogurt parfaits

Adrenals produce hormones, including estrogen, aldosterone, androgens, epinephrine, norepinephrine and cortisol. These hormones help regulate your metabolism, immune system, blood pressure, response to stress, sleeping cycles, and more!

Support them in ways that you can by eating fruits and veggies high in vitamin C. Red peppers, citrus, & kiwis are all great options.

The world we live in is a convenient one, and it’s easy to overlook the safety of our food for convenience.

Can you remember a time when you saw the cow you ate the meat from? Or the Chickens the eggs came from?

I would love for you to adopt a quality vs quantity approach. It’s better to have high quality, organic grass fed options and get the nutrients you need without the antibiotics and hormones in commercial meat.

If you are eating commercial meat, STOP! Its doing weird things to your hormones, I promise. If you do choose to eat meat, less is more. If you need more protein try getting it from plant based sources like lentils, beans, and quinoa.

Also, I highly recommend checking nearby for fresh eggs, they are SO much more delicious and you get to help a local business!

“Don’t expect to be motivated every day to get out there and make things happen. You won’t be. Don’t count on motivation. Count on Discipline.” -Jocko Willink

Discipline sounds scarier than it is.

Discipline is what has single-handedly helped me achieve all of my health goals.

It’s what will help you achieve yours too…

If you let it.

Knowing that you want to be healthy and doing everything you can to move towards it is discipline.

Are you taking steps towards health or away from health daily?

Let’s take a minute to talk about SALT!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your adrenal glands play a vital role in your hormone health and regulating your stress response. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One of the functions of the adrenal glands is to control your sodium-potassium levels and the fluid balance in your body, which also helps regulate blood pressure. This is done through aldosterone, a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands. Aldosterone regulates blood pressure according to stress levels—this is why blood pressure generally rises in stressful situations.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Consuming mineral rich, pure salt (not bleached table salt) will help the adrenals and balance the body’s natural stress response. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Try using Celtic Sea Salt or Himalayan Pink Salt!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
