Special Needs Sunday feature Chip is waiting for his forever home after being saved by Pink Heart Rescue. Chip is currently located in Texas. All info below. Interested adopters should fill out an application: https://pinkheartrescue.org/dog-adoption/
Name: Chip
Gender: Male
Age: 4 years
Breed: lab/Aussie/bully mix
Weight: 40lbs
Disability: partially deaf and missing one eye
Dogs: likes friends, but would be happy being an only dog.
Cats: dog savvy cats
Kids: 15+ years old
Location: Fredericksburg, Texas
Socialization/training: Chip is a socially easy, low-energy dog who coexists well with other dogs but doesn’t rely on pack life. He currently lives with a full group of dogs and ignores them most of the time, only occasionally engaging in brief play. His ideal home would be as an only dog or with one very calm, respectful dog.
He enjoys people and warms up well, but he prefers a home without young children. He would be fine meeting kids out in public, but a quiet, adult (15+) environment suits him best.
Chip is laid-back and thrives with a simple routine. He gets a quick case of the zoomies outside, sunbathes for a few minutes, then happily returns indoors to relax. He prefers a calm household and would do especially well with an elderly person or couple who wants a gentle, easy companion and is home most of the time.
Crate trained: He is crate-trained, likes having his own space, and appears to be potty trained. He generally does well with a predictable environment and would likely be comfortable with limited crate use in a low-stress home.
Leash trained: Chip walks reasonably well on a leash. He can pull a bit at times, but he’s not difficult to handle, and he settles into a comfortable pace once he’s moving. He’s best suited for relaxed, leisurely walks rather than high-energy outings.
Activity Level: Chip is a low-energy dog who prefers a calm, predictable routine. He enjoys a short burst of play or zoomies outside, followed by a few minutes of sunbathing, and then he’s ready to head back indoors. He’s happiest lounging around the house and would thrive in a quiet home that values a relaxed lifestyle over constant activity.
Fence: Chip would do best with a fenced yard. He isn’t a flight risk and respects a standard 4-ft fence, but he enjoys having space to run his short zoomies and explore safely. He could manage without a fence if given regular leashed outdoor time, but a fenced yard is his preference.
He does bark and become defensive when he sees people or other dogs on the other side of the fence, so a home that can manage or limit that type of exposure would be ideal.
Behavior: Chip is a mellow, easygoing dog who genuinely enjoys affection from the people he trusts. He loves gentle head and neck scratches, relaxes nearby, and will sometimes lean in or get close for extra attention. He bonds quietly but deeply and makes a great low-key companion.
He does have some handling sensitivities and may react if he feels uncomfortable, so he does best with someone who can read his cues and give him a little space when he asks for it. With a patient, predictable approach, he settles quickly and becomes very comfortable.
He also shows mild resource-guarding tendencies around his crate when cats or other dogs come too close, but he manages well when his space is respected. Overall, Chip is an affectionate, independent dog who thrives with someone who appreciates a calm home and clear boundaries.
