đŸŒ±Happy earth day!đŸŒ±

While your inundated with a zillion things you should be doing today and everyday to protect our planet, please remember that doing SOMETHING is better than doing NOTHING.

Choose 1 takeaway from the content you consume and put it into action.

We get into the nitty gritty and we have some fun. Plus, you get a sneak peak into how I “punish” myself for forgetting my bag at the grocery store.đŸ€Ł

Every little step counts (and mostly because that first little step, leads to much bigger steps and a ripple effect!)

You’ve got this.

Please don’t be overwhelmed to the point of inaction🙏. If you’re in that headspace, I’m here for you!

đŸŒ±Earth Month Food Tip #4: cook meals at homeđŸŒ±

Why? Enjoying home-cooked meals helps you

1. Be healthier, and eat fewer processed ingredients, more appropriate portions, more balanced meals, and less sodium.

2. Improve your mental health and have built in time to bond with your family.

3. Have better quality control of ingredients

4. If you & & , you’ll naturally make meals without even trying

5. Avoid single-use plastic takeout containers filled with harmful chemicals, including endocrine (hormone) disruptors, carcinogens, and obesogens (chemicals linked to excessive weight gain and obesity)
- The chemicals in plastic leach into the food housed in them, especially when that food it hot/heated
- Did you know that those black takeout containers are likely made from e-waste? Do you want your food touching toxic chemicals like heavy metals and flame retardants?

6. HOME COOKED MEALS TASTE LIKE A HUG AND A KISS AND LOVE

Even if you don’t like to cook or don’t want to cook, hopefully these reasons give you some inspiration to start cooking a little bit. Any bit of cooking is a step in the right direction. You don’t have to love the process, but I PROMISE, YOU’LL LOVE THE OUTCOME.

What’s your favorite reason to cook at home?

đŸŒ±Earth Month Food Tip #3: Buy in BulkđŸŒ±.

Avoid single use plastic packaging as much as possible when shopping for pantry staples, like nuts, seeds, whole grains, and dried fruit by buying from the bulk section.

Here’s how:
✹bring your own containers/jars/bags

✹get the “tare weight”- the weight of the empty containers/jars/bags

✹fill the containers & weigh them (the cashier will deduct the weight of the container so you only pay for the goods inside!)

YOU CAN DO THIS. This is such a great way to tackle the first R of sustainable living- refuse. By buying in bulk, you can refuse single use plastic for food items you purchase regularly!

BONUS: Having your pantry filled with beautiful jars of delicious goods totally raises your food experience.

What’s one food you are going to try to buy in bulk this week?

đŸŒ±Earth Month Food tip #1: SHOP LOCALđŸŒ±.

This means shopping at your local farmer’s market, joining a CSA, or buying right from a farm stand as much as possible!

In this video, I cover some of the benefits of shopping local. Spoiler: shopping local supports the environment, provides more nutritious food, AND, my favorite benefit, the food TASTES BETTER!

For my NY locals, my favorite places to shop local are , , , .farm, , and .

And, check out localharvest.org to find local, sustainable, delicious food from farms, CSAs and even restaurants near you.
