New research recently published in Pediatrics: Risk Factors for Unresolved Food Insecurity Among Households Receiving SNAP or WIC. Authored by team members from Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Einstein and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, including first author Dr. Marianna Castellanos one of our current Pediatric Residents. We are always amazed at the incredibly important work done by our CHAMily, especially our trainees!

As a current second-year medical student at Einstein, I have had the privilege of connecting with children and their families at CHAM and witnessing firsthand the vital role the Quality in Life Team plays in patients’ lives. I am thrilled to combine my two passions for running and medicine to help CHAM in its mission to support patients’ physical, spiritual, and emotional needs, regardless of their circumstances or ability to pay.”

We’re highlighting sibling runners Dr. Michelle Shankar and Kevin Shankar as Champions for ! They met their fundraising minimum for the 2025 TCS NYC Marathon. Keep up the great work!🏃

Michelle and Kevin are siblings running together for CHAM. They grew up in Maryland, and developed a love for long-distance running in childhood. Since graduating from high school, they have always lived in different states, until this past year, when they both moved to NYC. Michelle, a pediatrician at CHAM, has seen firsthand the difference this care can make for children and their families. Kevin, while not in medicine, has learned a lot about the important role that the QUILT team plays in providing compassionate care to children and families who need it most.

“While this is not our first marathon, as newly minted New Yorkers who are running for CHAM, this one will be especially meaningful for us.”

Since starting medical school at Einstein last fall, l’ve found it incredibly meaningful to connect with the Bronx community, and I feel honored to give back to children who need it most right here in my own neighborhood. The Einstein Run Club reignited my love for running (and my tolerance for way-too-early Saturday mornings) and has introduced me to some of my best friends here. Supporting a cause so close to my heart makes this journey even more special.”

“I am so excited to run the NYC Marathon in support of pediatric palliative care here at CHAM! As a current 4th year medical student at Einstein, I had the amazing opportunity to do my pediatrics clerkship at CHAM and have seen firsthand the strength of patients and their families and the incredible dedication of the care team. I started running during medical school as a way to find balance amidst a busy schedule. I am currently applying to residency in internal medicine with hopes to one day become an oncologist and running has continued to ground me.”
