This item is a must-have in your kitchen! 🧑‍🍳

Parchment paper is a great replacement for plastic wrap. 📜

But why should you avoid using plastic wrap?

Because when you use plastic wrap, hormone-disrupting chemicals can be released into the food and into your hands.

So make that easy change from plastic to parchment for the good of your and your family's health.

It’s often brown paper, but it can also sometimes be bleached; unbleached is the best option!

However, it is like paper, so it doesn’t cling shut as plastic wrap does, so be aware of this when using it.

💡 BONUS TIP: If you’re wrapping a sandwich, wrap it in parchment paper and then secure the package with aluminium foil.

You can even get creative and use stickers! It's fun, and the kids love it! (and so do some adults) 😆

Here are 2 KEY nontoxic materials to store your food in:
🫙 glass
🍳 stainless steel

✨ BONUS TIP: Try to collect glass containers that are safe enough not just for the refrigerator but also for the dishwasher, oven, and freezer.

Have you tried either of these yet?

Cooking acidic foods (like tomatoes, lemons, and vinegar) can facilitate the leaching of iron from cast iron (which is not necessarily bad in small doses) and nickel and chromium from stainless steel.

The risks for your average person under average conditions are probably low. However, if you or someone you love has health vulnerabilities, then you may want to be extra cautious. Sophia wanted to be conservative for her young children.

The amount of leaching depends on various factors like the cooking duration, how old and scratched the pots/pans are, stainless steel grade, and how seasoned the cast iron is.

When cooking acidic foods, you have two great options to minimize toxicity:

🥘 Ceramic-coated cast iron
🫙 Glass cookware

Sophia adopted both types into her cookware set years ago and has never looked back!

When cooking for yourself and your loved ones, it is always nice to know that your nutritious and healthy meals also have minimal toxic chemicals and heavy metals. 🍛

Although cast iron is the safest alternative to non-stick pots and pans, it does have its limitations:

It can rust, and the seasoning from the oils on the surface will wear out over time.

There are some conditions that wear out the seasoning more.

One of the main ones is using cast iron to boil water. So, whenever you have to boil water, use stainless steel instead.

Do you have any cast iron seasoning tips?

Did you know... 🤔

Unlike non-stick pots and pans, where you wash them with soap and water, you don't need soap and water to clean cast iron pots and pans. 🧼

Instead, soon after you cook with them, use an oven mitt to protect your hand from the hot cast iron handle, run them under hot water while scrubbing the cast iron clean with a stiff brush. 🧽

Then dry the cast iron with a paper towel since water contributes to rusting.

Finally, moisturize the cast iron after it’s dry with whatever oil you have on the kitchen countertop. Sophia uses the cheapest oil (to save the highest quality oils for consumption).

Do you have any cast iron cleaning tips? 🫧
