On my way to teach day 2 of Massage Therapy for the Breast Cancer Client, I spotted this lovely dragonfly two blocks north of our classroom. Long associated with change, light, hope, transformation, adaptability, and self-realization, the dragonfly's skimming flight over water often is interpreted as an act of looking beyond the surface into deeper aspects of life. I cannot think of a better analogy heading into our second and final day of this workshop!

This past weekend Rebecca presented our continuing education course, "Safe Massage for Lymphedema Patients" as part of CATA NYC's oncology massage program's core curriculum. Thank you to all the attendees for your focus and thoughtful questions!

We're looking forward to writing a new series of courses (we'll let you know more soon!) before teaching our "Massage Therapy for the Breast Cancer Client" course at CATA in June!

Attending the Oral Oncology Symposium at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Fascinating to see how current CAD-CAM technology is used in maxillofacial prosthetics to achieve more precise and aesthetically normative outcomes with significantly fewer surgeries. Very much looking forward hearing the speakers discuss radiation therapy, its sequelae and complications for the head and neck patient population, a population we work with a fair amount in our practice. So often tissue adhesion, radiation fibrosis, and lymphedema in the face and neck are issues we spend a lot of time addressing with our clients.

Exciting news!

Beginning October 15th BCB will now be offering Monday office hours at the Center for Advancement of Therapeutic Arts (CATA) in the heart of Chelsea! Treatments will be available by appointment. Both daytime and evening hours are available.

Over the past many months, Rebecca has received advanced fitter training from three major medical compression companies: Medi/Circaid, Jobst, and Juzo. We now provide consultations, fitting, and ordering of ready-to-wear, custom, nighttime compression and reduction kits for these companies. Consultations and fitting by appointment.

My apologies to the participants for my late post, but I worked with a wonderful group of massage therapists during my Safe Massage For Oncology Clients With Lymphedema course June 23-24th at CATA. THANK YOU! for staying focused, bringing your questions, and delving into the fascinating world of the lymphatic system! I know you will be able to provide safe, effective massage to oncology clients with or at risk for developing lymphedema. I hope to see you all in the breast cancer client course in September!

The course is part of CATA's Oncology Massage Program's core curriculum, a program near and dear to me. We know it has been a very (very) long time since we’ve posted, but we’ve been busy on many projects. With that in mind, we have big news we’ve been waiting to share! We’ve shifted our focus and in the process formalized our business. We are now BodyCrafts of Brooklyn, Inc!

We will still be developing DEO and other body care products, but our focus at this time is health and wellness through massage therapy modalities (see below), compression garment fitting for lymphedema clients, and continuing education for massage therapists and movement professionals -specific to working with oncology patients and clients with oncology histories. We see clients in Prospect Lefferts Garden, Brooklyn and Union Square, Manhattan. Massage therapy continuing education courses are currently taught as part of the Center for Advancement of Therapeutic Art’s Oncology Massage training program in NYC, but we are open to presenting CE courses outside of NYC.

The massage modalities we utilize include:
Lymph Drainage Therapy (Manual Lymph Drainage)
Lymphedema therapy
CranioSacral Therapy
Oncology Massage
Symptom-specific treatment which may include scar tissue release work, lymphofascial release and myofascial release, therapeutic massage techniques, osteopathic techniques and movement re-education.
