Tuesday, March 19, 2024 was a dream come true for a girl who grew up in constant pain and was told by a Dr. that she’d never amount to anything more than a housewife due to her condition.

Tuesday was the 17th annual Headache on the Hill, a day I never thought possible. I advocated along with 275 patients, caregivers, providers and researchers representing all 50 states.

The largest and most diverse Headache on the Hill yet.

We spoke with our Congressional offices to share our personal experiences living with headache and migraine disease, highlighting their significant impact on our daily lives and to advocate for legislative support on the following asks:
1. The Safe Step Act
2. NIH Clinical Trial Diversity Act
3. Increased funding for the VA Headache Disorders Centers of Excellence

Wondering how you can help make an impact in just a few minutes?

Any bit helps, and no it’s not just a headache and yes you can dream big no matter your condition or where you’re at.

Recently took a trip up to the mountains and got to escape for the first time in a long time for many obvious reasons. I took all precautions but the one I did not account for was altitude sickness which is amplified as a person living with migraine. I felt a shift from the second I arrived and didn’t sleep the first night I was in so much pain. I went to an oxygen therapy center where I was given an IV with B vitamins, magnesium and oxygen. I hydrated, I napped, I ate carbs. It helped lessen the intensity a bit but did not take away the intense migraine and nausea I was feeling. I was out of breathe simply walking. I was frustrated because there was so much beauty around me and I wanted to enjoy it. I had envisioned the trip going differently but had to alter my expectations. I didn’t handle it well at first. I had to remind myself of my limits and how lucky I was to even have the ability to be where I was. I still ended up getting to do and see some pretty great things. Amid a global pandemic. If that’s not a lesson learned I don’t know what is.
