A very special first has arrived! ✨ Help us welcome Northwell's first baby of 2026, Rocky Cocchiarella. Born at 1:55 am at North Shore University Hospital, weighing in at 6lbs 13oz and 20 inches long, already stealing hearts and making history. 🍼

Bailey Perry (mom) and Dante Cocchiarella (dad) were thrilled to welcome their "New Year’s miracle.” Like her daughter, Perry was also born at NSUH, a coincidence she likened to the Lion King’s "circle of life," describing Rocky's birth as their "Lion King moment.”

This milestone reflects continued progress in advancing comprehensive transplant services. Expanding access to pancreas transplantation brings new hope and options to patients across Long Island and beyond.

A major milestone for transplant care on Long Island.

Northwell Health has received approval to launch Long Island’s first adult pancreas transplant program—based at the Northwell Transplant Institute at North Shore University Hospital. This new program expands access to life-saving care for patients across greater New York and southern Connecticut.

With this addition, North Shore University Hospital becomes one of just 59 adult transplant centers nationwide offering heart, kidney, liver, lung and pancreas transplants under one roof—bringing highly coordinated, world-class care to those who need it most.

This program represents a meaningful step forward in improving access, outcomes and quality of life for transplant patients in our communities.

’Tis the season of giving, and Ally & Hana are shining examples of just that ❤️

These incredible fourth graders raised $1,200 for the future Joseph Maffeo Pediatric Unit at Staten Island University Hospital, all by creating and selling hundreds of handmade bracelets.

🚨Cases of seasonal flu, RSV, and Covid, also known as the 'tripledemic', have jumped in the weeks after Thanksgiving and are expected to worsen as the peak holiday season approaches.

If you're wondering if there's still time to get vaccinated, our experts say: It’s not too late.

"This is the start of the flu season. The start of this viral season varies year to year, but the surge is something that we’re used to and we’ve managed over and over again. What you never know is when flu is on the upswing and when the peak is going to be. How long will that plateau last? We don’t know — but we’re fully prepared," said John D’Angelo, MD, Northwell’s president and CEO.

Santa came to town a little early, bringing joy and special gifts to our pediatric patients! 🎁✨

Huge thanks to the firefighters of Engine 155/Ladder 78 for carrying on the annual toy drive tradition started by the late Bobby Ryan, a former FDNY Lieutenant and life long Staten Island resident.

Bobby, who was once a patient in our burn center, created this toy drive to spread holiday cheer to young patients, and his legacy continues to brighten many lives each year.
