For Shanique, a Registered Nurse at Staten Island University Hospital, quality care means truly focusing on the patient, making sure they feel safe, supported, and at ease, especially during difficult moments.

When one of her patients began experiencing anxiety about her stage in life, Shanique found a simple yet powerful way to help. She played music by The Beatles, songs that brought comfort and familiarity. In that moment, the patient’s anxiety eased, replaced with a sense of calm and happiness during her hospital stay.

It’s small, thoughtful acts like these that make a lasting impact. ❤️

We had a very special visitor stop by our pediatric rehab gym 🐾💙

Meet Malfoy, an incredible service dog from Canine Companion, who does therapy work at our hospital through the Luv on a Leash program.

He was the best boy, and our pediatric patients had the sweetest time running obstacle courses, earning tail wags, and giving him well-deserved treats!

Florence has been a dedicated Patient Care Technician on the Telemetry floor for over 26 years. The best part of the job is simply being there for her patients, even checking in on her days off to make sure they’re okay.

During COVID, Florence helped keep one family connected by setting up daily iPad visits so they could see their father, offering comfort during a time they couldn’t be together.

Her compassion and dedication remind us that care extends far beyond the bedside. 🤍

“Be the reason someone smiles today.” 💗

Having experienced treatment herself at the Florina Cancer Center, Rachel knows firsthand the challenges patients face. To spread a little joy, she and her daughter, Riley, put together thoughtful goodie bags filled with coloring books, uplifting notes, and a heartfelt handmade touch—a tiny crocheted heart crafted by one of Riley’s friends.

A gentle reminder that small acts of love can bring big comfort and hope to those who need it most.
